GRAND FINAL MUSIC COMPETITION – 21 and Over Category
3’s a crowd – Singer and guitarist felt a little detached from each other. The guitarist needed to become part of the act – not just be on the stage. Vocalist had a tonne of energy though! Amazing vocal – wrong song choice.
Abbie Tabberer – You need to express the emotion of the song as best as you can using your face and body language as much you can, but appropriately - don’t over exaggerate or over-push. The performance felt aggressive rather than passionate at times. Vocal tone needs to have more warmth.
Alex Attrill – A lovely song to sing but you need to try and put your own twist on it. You are very good but who is Alex Attrill musically as an artist? Nice voice – I’d just like to see more of a USP (unique selling point).
Anthony Monarch – You work the stage well and your stage craft is really good but it felt a little holiday camp performer-like. Technically you have a very good vocal but it felt like you were lacking in sincerity and commitment. It may be a cover, but sing it like it’s not! Look to add your own spin and image to make you stand out.
Amir Sharma – Didn’t seem to have the same impact as the area finals where you brought house down! Would have selected the same song choice but fair play to try something different. Unique tone. Fairly good song. Lots of ability. Need to find an image. So good though!
Carla Marques – Guitarist is good but doesn’t seem to fit as an act. Playing guitar over a backing track seems a bit fake. Carla needs to have more a presence on stage. Good solid pop – reminded me of Roxette from the 80s.
Christina Chara – Dress looked great for a really committed performance. Backing vocals should have been a little lower in the mix, the vocals were also a bit saturated, give them a chance to breathe. Loose the audience participation. Really good original song.Great voice, great performer, stunning look. Well-written song but feels badly dated. Fresh material would make this awesome!
Cheryl Lee – Good styling, lovely song. Would focus on strengthening the hook. Nice tone, but the song dragged. Nice performance.
Ciinderella B - A talented girl, great voice and great look. The song started off very impressive, but it didn’t seem to go anywhere. You piano playing and performance does needs to work to really stand out.
Dan Cawley – Nice vocals and stage presence. You had a really good connection to the song, it felt passionate and committed. Nice performance.
Heidi Browne – Nice original song, very quirky and catchy. Really easy listening, I could imagine driving to this song, very casual and very cool! I can see people buying your album.
Indi – Indi is an amazingly talented boy! Technically great, but you could have built the performance and song more, it lacked a bit of dynamic. Amazing performance though.
Danny Marsh – The new Billy Brag! Could make more of the chorus by just dropping a little out of the song and/or having a gap before singing the chorus. Well done a really enjoyable performance.
Johnny McManus – Intense! Loved it... one of the best male vocalists of the day. Initial song was the most enjoyable part of the performance. You have a nice rich tone to your voice, but try and work a little more on the performance side.
GRAND FINAL MUSIC COMPETITION – 21 and Over Category
Lewis Bennett - Performance came across a little rushed and too busy. Think about the dynamics and let it breathe. Found it hard to hear the words of the song, work on your diction, so we can hear every word clearly.
Jay Betts – You’re always going to struggle to get a crowd going, which isn’t there solely supporting you. MC to audience patter isn’t so original anymore. Performance was better after that though, it became more original and enjoyable. Watch your lyrical content and timing.
Lucan Mills – Backing musicians looked they were loving it; there was a real connection between all the performers which really added to the performance. Great job by all of you. One of the best original songs of the day too! Really nice flow and timing, a really enjoyable performance!
Jenny Williams – Such a powerful vocal, an amazing opera singer! Remember to perform throughout though, even in the instrumental sections.
Patrick Fox – Wow almost didn’t recognise the song, you really made it your own. Would love to hear you do your own songs in that style! Love the rustic tone to your voice. We want to hear more, great performance!
Stephen Cornwall – The song is really good! Just need a little more stage craft to bring the variation of expression to the performance. The ladies are obviously going to love you, but you need to have more confidence.
Kerry George – A very fun performance, you worked the stage well, but it did seem a little karaoke. It needed to have your own twist to it to make it original. Cool look, and nice energy on stage, could see you were enjoying yourself which was great.
Marcus McCoan – Confident songwriter and some clever lyrics in the song. Silky vocals and good build at the end. Preferred the song at the Area Finals, think it was a bit stronger, but good performance today.
Lucy May – Good use of the stage coming right to the front helps create a connection with the audience. You have a beautiful voice and cute image. Playing around with the cover made it a really good, honest performance.
Tres – When comparing your backing musicians to other contestant’s back musicians you can really see a difference. They didn’t perform at all, they need to do more than just looking down at their strings is very non-engaging. Nice vocals, but the performance does need work, think about moving around the stage more.
Nick D – This guy has such a silky vocal! Nice song and well worked stage work. You have such a lot of confidence, we really enjoyed the performance, well done!
Totie Southwell – A song you’d like to wake up too! Very soothing, maybe just needed a more distinctive chorus. Love your vocal tone and your personality shines through every time you perform. Lovely performance to finish off the day, well done!
