Hampshire Recording Studio Owner

Hampshire recording studio engineer and producer, Gareth Henderson, has been involved in the music scene for over 25 years and it’s far more of a passion than a career.

Gareth made dream become reality in 2010 when he opened River Studios, one of the largest recording studios in the UK. Designed specifically to accommodate both vocal clients and bands, with 2 main live rooms, 2 amp cupboards as well as a spacious control room, 3 other rehearsal rooms are tied to the studio enabling a full orchestra to be recorded as live. 

He has been a professional singer since the tender age of 15 and has sung in many of the local bands that have graced the Southampton music scene over the years. Gareth is now one of the very few Certified Speech Level Singing Instructors in the UK.  As a producer/engineer, both in the studio and in live recordings, he has worked with people like Yazz, Alesha Dixon, Soul legend Omar, Corinne Bailey Rae and has recently worked on Birdy’s debut album including her original track With Out a Word.

Gareth worked alongside past Open Mic UK winner, Birdy, recording her album and the single Shelter in HL studios (now River Studios). The recordings were sent to Warner and they signed Birdy. Birdy has now had two top 30 UK hits with the Bon Iver cover “Skinny Love” and “Shelter”

River Studios is also the new home for his long established vocal school, Southern School of Popular Singing, of which he is still the principal voice coach.  Vocal clients have included a number of TV personalities looking to improve their voices, X Factor finalists 4Tune, Songwriter Mark Hill himself, chart topping Artist Yazz (The Only Way Is Up) and Les Miserablés lead vocalist Peter Saul, not forgetting current client, Open Mic’s very own Birdy.
