Judges Feedback From The Glasgow Live Show, 18 – 25′s Category
This weekend the judges were in Glasgow! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 2.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!
Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.
Judges at Glasgow included Brit awards Panel member and Green Pepper Junction Records Asher Halle, Equity Vice Chairman Eva Loraine, Flying Pixie Management Fiona Elcoat and Future Music’s Chris Grayston
18 – 25′s;
Jenna Hay; Chris; song choice was a little dull but was performed confidently if a little serious. Asher; really good rendition
Nick Cheyne; Asher; OK performance but nothing special Chris; Long way from the mic which would have helped projection better. It lacked dynamics to stand out.
Robyn McLean; Asher; really nice deep commercial voice Chris; Song choice suited her vocals with a powerful delivery. Should have varied performance around as that side of it could have been more interesting.
Adam Baker; Chris; Always going to be Judged on the strength of the song which was ok but no hit. Asher; good musician
Brogan Milroy; Fiona; has potential and a great look Chris; lot of pressure singing acapella intro but once going from a shaky start got into the flow. Great image perhaps fronting a band would be more authentic for her?
Catriona Leighton; Asher; accomplished performer
Ceri-P; Lorraine; great performance Chris; make sure clear with the dictation. Hook line is exactly the same as the song suggests need to make it more exciting change the dynamics and or lyrics to make it more interesting and catchy.
Emma Kullander; Fiona; good voice but needs to smile more Asher; typical folk voice, good with right production and song
Jay-Yoo-Ice; Chris; mic control this was said to you twice need to listen!! Lorraine; needs more confidence and needs to sing louder
Kyra Lamont; Asher; star! Fiona; very good image and good voice projection
Lisa McKechnie; Chris; pick songs that haven’t been covered a lot, will show you off so much better not doing something so obvious. Fiona; powerful singer but needs to work on image
Matthew Hickman; Chris; looks the part and original sounds like a Guns n Roses song.
Scott Peden; Asher; needs to work with someone to bring out his potential Chris; Good original which blended well with the cover.
Twiice; Chris; It’s like seeing double perhaps singing different layered harmonies would work really well in the cover. Looked more comfortable behind the guitars
Vanessa Browne; Asher; good original song
Ashley Jenkins; Fiona; looked good and sounded good, has potential Chris; Not the greatest song choice again but a polished performance and vocal.
Reloaded; Chris; Good idea to do it acoustically but it did make the song plod rather than build as the vocals did. Good harmonies on cover. Original was great with a strong hook! Potential winners if they work at this!
Rebecca Currie; Fiona; liked the choice of song and was very impressed with musicianship Asher; this lady could go all the way
Leeanne Hutchinson; Chris; Alicia Keys has an awesome voice your always going to come up second to that especially live although Leeanne has a great voice always going to be in a shadow to the original. Fiona; good image, like the voice
Ashley Page; Chris; again a big song to choose a high risk strategy which is difficult to score well with performance but Ashley has a strong voice and controlled the mic professionally!
