Judges Feedback From The Glasgow Live Show, Over 25′s Category
This weekend the judges were in Glasgow! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 2.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!
Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.
Judges at Glasgow included Brit awards Panel member and Green Pepper Junction Records Asher Halle, singing coach and performance director Lesley Miller, Flying Pixie Management Fiona Elcoat and Future Music’s Chris Grayston
Over 25′s;
James Gillespie; Chris; Good delivery and passion. Asher; husky but attractive sound
Martin McGuigan; Lesley; try not to shout into the mic, let the mic do the work Chris; Couldn’t always hear the word clearly so watch dictation.
Aaron McLaren; Asher; an ordinary voice Lesley; I like your style of song writing, keep it up
Alan Murphy; Chris; Strong dynamics with guitar playing. Remember to engage with the audience.
Chris Hamill; Lesley; bring the mic closer so you don’t strain your neck and look more to the audience Asher; good material
Martin Jones; Chris; Strong delivery needs to look at image though perhaps go for a complete quirky look?
Kathleen McGee; Asher; nice attempt at the song Chris; nice choice of cover and played around with it to make it her own which some parts worked in part and some didn’t in execution. Need to build and keep the intensity rather than the other way round.
James Foster-Lamb; Lesley; great change of tempo and time, an audience pleaser Chris; loved the cover and enjoyed the guitar playing. Good dynamics.
Alexis Anderson; Fiona; love the dress! Good voice and good image Chris; Strong image
Roger Pattison; Asher; nice projecting image although ordinary voice Fiona; refreshingly different
Elaine & Stephen; Chris; Guitar player looks very uninterested needs to bring more to the party Lesley; great guitar playing and song was good
The Lips; Chris; this is pretty chilled, bit different nice pace and confident. Like to hear more original stuff. Remember to engage the audience even at the end of the track when winding down.
Andrea Wilson; Asher; star! Fiona; excellent all round performance and big voice. Winning talent in my opinion.
Gordon Walker; Chris; Need to work on mic control and take care with pitch Fiona; liked Gordon’s mellow voice and the fact that he didn’t just stand still on stage
Graham Kerr; Chris; Good choice of cover Lesley; singing and chewing gum at the same time = spoiled your performance
Femme Fidel; Asher; nice personality Fiona; liked the vocals but needs to do more with the stage presence Chris; Lovely tone
James McKay; Chris; Very smartly dressed. Cover was the stronger performance by far suggesting the original needs a little more work to make the same impact. Asher; good voice
