Judges Feedback From The Plymouth Live Show, Under 18′s Category

This weekend the judges were in Plymouth! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Guildhall in Plymouth on 9.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Judges at Plymouth included singer songwriter Simon Cooper, Alex Smith from The Studio, pianist and composer Alex Christaki and Future Music’s Chris Grayston.

Under 18′s;

Amy Wagstaff; Chris; Good performance but dictation could have been clearer. Alex Christaki; Unique vocals. Simon; Vocals need to be clearer and spaced words , good attempt though. Alex Smith; Love the way she made the song her own.

Josie McDonald; Alex Christaki; Just needs practice Simon; Keeps looking at floor a lot, wasn’t doing much with the stage, need a smile Chris; Looked good but be careful with high heels on looked a bit awkward walking on stage which is a first impression.

Alice Chilcott; Chris; try to act confident showing the nerves too much, guitar playing could flow more. Alex Christaki; Lovely raw voice, simple guitar, some guitar practice. Simon; Eye contact with everyone, good facial expressions and potentially stronger voice. AlexMalric-Smith; maintain eye contact with the audience and drawing people in.

Charlotte Neale;  Alex Christaki; Some timing issues. Simon; Vocals need a bit more work Alex Smith; Good choice of song, it suits the voice.

Grace Rogers; Chris; Conveyed the song well with her hand gestures and facial expression Alex Christaki; Singing lessons to fix vibrato. Simon; Strong vocals, could have used stage more. Alex Smith;  Maybe a little nervous at first, but found her way.

Hannah Dawe; Chris; Nice idea having bongo and guitar backing and warmed into the performance as it went on Alex C; Low key, super vocals and performance. Simon; Strong as a group, good dynamics, needs a bit more of an image

Jasmine Thompson;  Alex C; Fantastic voice, some good dynamics. Alex S; Incredibly confident. Powerful voice for someone so young but need to use that stage and engage with the audience

Liam May; Chris; great to see him loving and enjoying himself. Simon; Needs a lot more confidence and more expression. Alex S; Difficult song choice, but he pulled it off.

Luke Friend; Simon; Good look, very good vocal ability. Alex S;Difficult song to sing, great effort Alex C; He’s going to have a superb musical career

Marissa May; Chris; Good choice of cover song, looks comfortable on stage, remember to engage more with your eyes.  Alex C; Superb vocals, needs to find a strong identity. Simon; Need to make use of dynamics and improve vocals.

Michael Jope;  Simon; needs to lift things up a bit and make more eye contact with audience.  Alex S; confident and stylish performance.

Sam Warren;  Chris; watch mic control don’t look down at the guitar as loose volume in mic. Simon; Needs to be clearer and use more dynamics and more expression.

Tamsin Ball;  Simon; Very good performance and a good look.  Alex S; Very honest performance, real talent. Good image and expression.

Toby Smith; Chris; looks confident and comfortable on the stage and uses stage well. Alex C; key is too low for his voice. Simon; Good use of stage, very confident Alex S; Maybe not the best choice of song, it got away from him at the start but he pulled it back.
