This weekend the judges were in Hayes! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Beck Theatre on 10.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.

Judges at Hayes included singer songwriter Karen Corson, Rob Palmer from Vocal Tutor, Kiki Militsis from ICMP, Vivace Music Company Anita McDonald and Future Music’s Chris Grayston.

18 – 25′s;

Jacob Bush; Kiki; ability’s definitely there just needs a bit more originality Anita; good lyrics and composition

Jonny Mudd; Chris; A very human performance felt the emotion and nerves. Rob; great vocals with good connection to the lyrics

Krew Shai; Kiki; sleek moves second song was better Chris; Needs more than him on stage not strong enough on his own. Freestyle was much stronger good beats.

Maya Miko; Karen; great image and moves Kiki; good performance connected well with the audience Chris; Cover wasn’t different enough, female vocal suffered with pitch.

Vanita Atim; Chris; Didn’t enjoy it felt laboured and lacking passion Rob; good cover but lose the guitar and get someone else to play Karen; good voice and strong vocals

Angelyn’; Rob; dramatic performance could have done with more vocal dynamics Chris; Didn’t like the glasses limited the eye contact.

Blessed_G; Rob; look at the audience more Karen; kind of let the backing track do all the hard work Chris; Urban karaoke with the cover! At least try and make it unique? Awkward pause between change over.

Caroline Pooley; Chris; What a bizarre choice of song why choose to do a musical number? This would be good in the West End Rob; technical vocal Anita; good song but convey the humour more, use facial expressions

Marian; Chris; No dynamics felt lifeless Kiki; looked confident and had nice tone to voice Karen; nice gentle vocals, in tune, good image

Marysa Taylor; Chris; Sang very nicely but a very obvious cover Karen; classy up to date image Anita; beautiful top notes

Manu; Rob; good vocals and harmonies but the choreography let it down Chris; Backing singers not vocally strong enough although looked and performed great.

Natalie-Ann Stokes; Kiki; good ability and communication but could add more dynaimcs Rob; nice vocal and delivery but try not to hold on to the mic stand so much Karen; need to focus on confidence and stage presence

Nyja & T-zer; Chris; How annoying is the hello? Not enough conviction need to put on a show dictation is also not clear Anita; very energetic performance

Simone; Chris; Wanted it to be more lost momentum at times although guitar playing was awesome nice technique Rob; unique vocal

Tabitha Mortiboy; Kiki; good performance and connected well with the audience Rob; a bit more projection on the vocals would make a huge difference Chris; didn’t think the backing singer added much. Difficult to know who was lead at times.

Jimmy Deane; Chris; Nice tone, brave to do the cover acapella but a good job went down well. Like to hear more! Kiki; not many can pull off an accapella performance but this guy did Anita; original vocal, brave choice, well done

Susana Figueira; Karen; good image and good song choice Chris; Dynamics were a bit on one level could have built it up to a roof raising end?

Veronika Vesper; Chris; Loving the electro! Original song was better than the cover which lacked the same intensity and power of the original Rob; image matches the musical style
