Judges Feedback From The Hayes Live Show, Over 25′s Category

This weekend the judges were in Hayes! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Beck Theatre on 10.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.

Judges at Hayes included singer songwriter Karen Corson, Rob Palmer from Vocal Tutor, Kiki Militsis from ICMP, Vivace Music Company Anita McDonald and Future Music’s Chris Grayston.

Over 25′s;

Adrian Gray; Chris; Strong vocal really worked with the guitar support to the original Kiki; charismatic performance

Wilfred Lovely; Chris; interesting cover but didn’t make it different enough Anita; powerful performance and looked like you were enjoying yourself Karen; good image but needs vocal training

Daniella Maria; Karen; good performance but wrong song choice Chris; Good choice of cover but the backing was a little stale so the track had little movement this continued with the original which would have been bettered with stronger dynamics.

Adam Baine; Anita; versatile and instant raport with the audience Karen; very original Chris; Very talented chap playing both guitar and keys equally well. Nice change down of the cover.

Adam Fox; Kiki; brilliant vocals and great control Anita; very original a proper musician! Karen; good audience interaction

Campbell John Quinn; Chris; remember to engage a lot of the performance was performed with his eyes closed Anita; great to see another live musician in this category

Daina Ashmore; Chris; Strong vocal with a cracking original Kiki; original much better than the cover Anita; vary dynamics more in future

Daniela Vallejo; Karen; lively entertaining song choice Anita; a very unusual performance Chris; made the cover her own and got the audience involved in a confident well delivered performance.

David Culshaw; Chris; Didn’t think the original had enough to it and generally lack of eye contact. Kiki; can see he was very into the performance but constant closing of the eyes took away the interaction with the audience

Fidel; Anita; please open eyes more to interact Chris; having seen Fidel a few times now, the cover was weak for his standards. Failed to get going for me needed an adrenaline injection.

Geoff Cotton; Karen; good audience interaction Chris; No performance completely motionless for the original? But got the audience all singing and clapping the cover all good fun Kiki; master of the crowd

Jacques Houdek; Chris; Boy this guy made the song sing! Lovely voice well chosen song this guy should sail through!

Kelly Cavuoto; Anita; good stage presence but maybe move a bit more Karen; song seemed to drag on and on Chris; would have been nice to see Kelly play around with the vocals of the song a little seemed to repeat the chorus a lot

Michael Lee; Karen; switched songs over smoothly and in key Anita; Anita; modern day one man band

Michelle McKee; Chris; Well it wasn’t as good as Alicia Keys version or different enough so struggling to justify that being a good choice of song Kiki; high notes in chorus needed more presence

Rachel King; Chris; again a good voice but poor choice of a song better heard for the west end. Didn’t move me sorry! Karen; excellent voice good image

Tim Buckley; Anita; a different song would have been preferable as the range was difficult Chris; Looked to have fun and portrayed it well.

Tom Marcovich; Karen; original song was best Kiki; ability is there just needs to connect more with the audience

Vi Lara; Chris; guitar was a little laboured in the backing track Anita; good movement around the stage, very brave second song

Lisa Healy; Chris; Not sure this is out of place at Butlin’s nothing different or outstanding from what we saw Kiki; voice lacked projection throughout Karen; good image

Craig Brauns; Chris; With his husky voice sounds a bit like Rod Stewart! Engage a little more be an improvement but I’m being picky Anita; a character and a recording voice, I enjoyed it

Janine; Karen; a confident performance but needs to work on mic control Chris; Performed it really well with some sexy moves and a good voice just watch don’t get too shouty on the high notes.

Angie; Anita; good song writer Chris; Cover wasn’t so strong but performed the original well to show why we put her through to the shows from auditions.
