Judges Feedback From The Brighton Live Show, Under 18's Category

This weekend the judges were in Brighton! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Hove Centre on 30.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.

Judges at Brighton included Founder of Sussex vocal academy Lucinda Bristow, Vocalist Lesley Mitchell, former Miss Brighton Tino Leonard and Future Music’s Chris Grayston.

Under 18's;

Marcus Costi; probably too soon for him needs to develop more, project the vocals and gain confidence the more he performs the more this will improve. Need more eye contact.

Abigail Hartfree; Watch the mic control and attention to the notes of the whole song note just the high ones.Strong voice, would sound good singing country.

Daniel Steven Walford; brave choice with the acapella first up can be very unforgiving. Needs to watch top notes, fab original track.

KT Kenward; Good image and powerfully delivered original song! Good voice and dynamics but work on mic technique.

Zoe Payne; It’s heating up now! Great choice of cover and made it her own. Look like you are enjoying yourself, clearly passionate, good original vocals.

Devon Wright; Has a great voice but needs to express herself more on stage almost devoid of a performance from either the eyes or body language need to work on that. Need more confidence.

Amy Parratt; Good eye contact remember to use the stage and more conviction with the hands and body. Good performance but could work on supporting her vocals.

Elliot Welch; All there needs to just put the icing on cake, slicker performance, sharper vocals. Great look.

Florence Maskell; Loved the original and image very Paloma Faith left me feeling a little bored at the end perhaps work on dynamics or something to keep the interest going. Liked the original material.

Jake Whetcombe; When performing the cover exposed the original as not being good enough was a bit exhausting and hundred mile an hour...perhaps slow down or breakdown. The last bit of the cover was by far the best when slowed down just watch guitar playing.

Grace Saif; Great performance but lose the hat. Very original, great presence.

Josh Glavin; Original needs to be more interesting, some clever key changes? Good confidence on stage but acknowledge the audience.

Melissa Blaikie; Guitar didn’t sound great remember to check tuning which let down the performance. Nice tone to voice but could do with more energy.

Luke Fincher;  Sweet vocals to convey a good song choice. Guitar at times sounded flat. Great vocals range.

Kirstie Bridle; vocally very strong needs to get an intensity on the performance to back it up. Backing track was bit loud, need more personality on stage.

Sydney; There certainly was a sparkle when Sydney sung original and a good change of expression for the cover need to change expression during the songs too. Great original track and performance.

Rosie May Hudson-Edmonds; Would have like to have heard a more interesting and modern song choice but rolled it out with some aplomb.

Leanne Grice; Consider a more contemporary track. Powerful vocals and great confidence.

Chloe Williams; This final is hotting up with some great vocals, again performance is lacking.

Rebecca Anderson; Very confident and relaxed on stage along with a well supported backing on keys. Didn't seem to be enjoying the performance...

The Young mavericks; better on stage than off it..vocals blended well together with some great acapella and adlibs to make the songs their own. Original.

Chloe Bryer; Guitars unfortunately let the performance down starting badly and clashing on occasions. No chemistry between the performers. Great engagement with the audience.

3Image; Loved the choreography and styling but need to smile and enjoy it.
