Judges Feedback From The Bedford Live Show, Over 25's Category

This weekend the judges were in Bedford! Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Bedford Corn Exchange on 31.10.10 Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!

Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.

Judges at Bedford included Vocal Tutor and tutor for Vidla Christine Evans, Vocalist Sammi Vaughan, from Vocal tutor Jules Pretorious along with Future Music’s Chris Grayston.

Over 25's;

Lily Shea; nice vocals but just seemed to lack dynamics and a hook. Very good original material.

Scott Blackledge; Guitars a little too loud on the backing track. Quirky, but could do with a bit more edge in his performance.

Nikki-Jane; Good powerful voice. Slight timing issue on one note, could incorporate a bit more emotion to engage the audience.

Helena Jones; Need to work on pitching issues. Good image but let down by tuning.

Crazy James; Good conviction, certainly looked the part and worked the stage well. Very enaging and enjoyed the performance!

J Saverio; Both performers came on stage looking a bit miserable and this seemed to transpire into the performance despite being sung and performed well it was a little downbeat and depressing. Didn’t see chemistry or connection between the performers. Finished with a lovely smile. Nice use of harmonies.

Joane O’Maliey; Played and performed well but dynamics would have given more impact. Captivating performance.

Killa Zorro; Huge potential, smooth lyrics. Performance flowed as he got into it.  Really entertaining performance.

Kathy Keeling; Sung well but nothing different shown to suggest this act would have a broad appeal. Looked great and engaged the audience but work on controlling voice on higher notes.

Rocky; Mash up of covers meant we didn’t settle on what Rocky is as an artist. Work the stage more and performance was a little self indulgent. Great look and great vocals.

Kelly Bourne; Nice control and nice tone. Great image.

Ryan Costello; Nicely performed cover. Gifted song writer.

Ko-Fi; Nice idea with the violin gave it an earthy feel that the original felt comfortable with...the single is a hit with the right producer. Great set up on stage.

Rachel Boothman; Good song choice but sung without performance. Use more facial expressions and body language to express the song.

Iris Green; Watch this space nice tone to the vocals not the wisest choice of cover but more to come I feel. Quality and tenderness in the voice, great song choice.

Deja Crew; Good cover good twist to it..try and keep closer to the middle of the stage as sometimes at either end of the stage your out of the eye line.
