The Open Mic Music competition; Judges feedback from the Liverpool live show under 18's
The UK's largest talent competition for singers and songwriters travelled to Liverpool this week in the ongoing hunt for talent.
Thousands of acts entered Open Mic UK this year and some of the best unsigned acts in the country took to the stage at the Liner Hotel on 07.11.10.
Here the judges give us some feedback from the event, but remember, it could all change at the Area Finals!
Please note: views expressed by Judges are opinions and in no way reflect the views of Open Mic UK.
Judges at Liverpool were: Phillip Whittam from Liverpoolclubbing.com; Laura Adams, from the thesingingteacher.biz; Su Grainger from the British Voice Association; Kathryn Dion - King, Northern songwriter of the year and professional singer Karen Corson.
Emma Davies: Strong performance and a cute image, although song choice could have been better.
Harriet Marsland: Beautiful voice and a solid confident singer, although still needs more vocal work- one to look out for in the future.
Jodie Bailey: Confident and dramatic performance, although may be more suited to theatre than recording, engaging, and the ‘big ‘notes were great.
Lucy Hughes: Nice use of the stage and good audience interaction, still needs more work on confidence, however. Great image and vocals.
Nadine McGhee: A natural performer, she has a great heart and it showed in her act; she will do really well with more vocal training.
Paige Phillips: Faultless voice, preferred the second song choice, but still has a bright future ahead.
Alex Keirl: Very intense performer, great voice, but needs to work on a stronger image.
Daisy Valentine: Very talented with a great voice and a decent songwriter, Daisy would do well in a band, but she needs to hone her Mic skills.
Ellen Gallagher: Great energy on stage, and a strong voice, although Ellen’s image was a bit too old for her.
Gemma Loveridge: Great image, and a beautiful voice, could work on stage presence and confidence.
Hatty Keane: Great interpretation of the song, strong vocals, but would do well with a funkier image.
Jessica Bates: Beautiful voice, but the song was too much for her, nice image, will do well with more vocal training.
Katie Benbow: great show, a nice change to see someone using a dancer, although some of the judges found him distracting, nice confidence and stage presence.
Kelly Ann Banks: Huge song choice, Kelly was a strong vocal performer, but needs more vocal work, and would suit a more up tempo song.
Kirsty Murphy: Great image and a mature vocal, she obviously lived the song and it shone through.
Laura Ogden: Powerful performer, although needs more vocal work and to use softer elements of her voice. Had good stage presence.
Portia Victoria: Great original image, she has the makings of a great performer, although she does need work on her pronunciation and toning.
Ramena: Fantastic show, although attitude may alienate your audience. Used stage well and sang nicely.
Rati Choudhary: A stunning voice, would have a good career in West End musicals, as opposed to the charts. Effortless stage presence.
Sammie Jo McCormick: Amazing potential, strong unique image and a great vocal style, will go far with more training. Nice to see such a different style of performance and good audience interaction.
Sophie Bond: Great mischievous and fun presence on stage, attention grabbing and good use of mixed genres, needs a little work on image, but overall she was brilliant.
Sophie Freeman: Strong good voice, although slightly affected by her nerves, needs to relax a bit and try not to be too 'shouty,' would do really well in a band.
Molly Griffiths: Nice image and a stunning voice, she already looks like a star, but needs to relax more on top notes.
Natasha and Scott: Nice voices, refreshing to see a double act on stage, Natasha looked relaxed and enjoying herself, but Scott needs to engage with the audience more. Would do well with a more up tempo song.
