Singing competition in the South West, Open Mic UK, has provided Industry feedback for singers at the Bristol Regional Finals.

Successful auditionees in the South West performed at St Georges Bristol in front of a large crowd and the Open Mic UK industry experts. Judges included vocal coaches, music journalists and A&R managers. The talent competition feedback on selected acts can be seen below.

The judges for the South West singing competition regional final were Stuart Slater from Rock School, booking agent Mark Woodruff, Sol Curry from Factory Studios, performer and vocal coach Katya Gorrie and Graham MacLean from Artist Liaison.

Singing Competition South West Feedback – 16 and under category

Lucy Storm - Nice vocal if a little out of tune sometimes. Good opener to the show (Always a difficult slot)

Ellis Chick – Confident young performer – liked his humour…keep at it and find your own style. Top half today.

Esther Scott – Some good vocal control, with fair tonal consistency. Doesn’t seem very comfortable in her own voice and try to engage a little more with the audience.

Katie Leigh Williams – Nice dynamic shape but pitching and tone control not completely there today. Not a strong performance unfortunately.

Amy Mules – Nice natural performer and very theatrical in delivery. However, picked a song that was not in a good key for her vocal range.

Blessing Bijoux – Original arrangement but would benefit from a greater sense of dynamic shape. Good use of the stage.

Charlotte Carter-Dunn – Liked her confidence – has a good understanding of performing. Engaging overall, but watch image. (Good delivery given the injured the leg. Will be unlucky not to go through).

Ellie Higgs – Great voice, good song choice, confident and comfortable. Very good look!

Florence – Amazing courage to enter a contemporary competition with a classical voice, particularly given age and experience. Performance a little still, but pretty voice.

Georgia Slade – Beautiful girl, nice performance, but vocals need a little work. Lots of promise here.

James Edler – Well done! Good for you for being yourself and original. Keep going!

Jodie Mellor – 12 years old! Great. Good sense of phrasing and notable dynamics at such a tender age. Do however work on the ‘performance’ side of things, even at this early stage.

Singing Competition South West - Further Feedback

Kate Lomas – Strong vocals and attitude. Guitar needs perhaps a little more thought. Good presentation.

Luke H-M – Something there for me. Try and develop vocals, confidence and find your style, but raw talent.

Lacey Mai – Great song choice. Beautiful and mature voice for 15! Good phrasing and breath control. (good name too!)

Molly Emmerson – Wow! 12! that voice….sounds much older and established than you would expect.

Rosalyn – Great improvement on the audition. Image also worked very well. Well done Rosalyn!

Olivia Allin – Needs to work on voice and rhythm. Nice look and energy and 2^ndsong much better. (Not sure the guitar added musically)

Maisie Tooley – Very polished and commercial. Fantastic! Could go far….

Sophie Davies – Lovely voice, but not sure about song choice and this may have affected overall confidence. Nice to see good mic technique!

Stacey Hunt – Good, brave, performance. There is a strong voice in there – needs time.

Leila Fay – Very believable performance and captivating overall. Don’t necessarily feel the need to apologise for mistakes (which you rectified well).

Taylor Darby Rowland – Low register les secure, and watch rhythm placement / leading note timing. Looked fabulous, but not quite ready. More time required.

Marissa May – Distinctive image and sound. Guitar work suited your style. Nice intonation. (Great name!)

Francesca – Good look! Try to relax into a performance. Interesting interpretation, but lacking conviction and a commercial edge.
