Music Contests Bristol Feedback – 17-22 category
Empror - Good opener with effective crowd participation. Watch diction though – not all words clearly understood. Looked comfortable.
Marcus – Well delivered, brave choice of song and good attention to image. A top half performer.
Stephanie Jackson – Great voice and assured in some aspects but try to work on stagecraft and presentation. Lots of potential here....
Alfie Mahone – Generally comfortable but needs an edge to really compete. Would benefit from greater dynamic shape and structure / arrangements not quite there.
AYS – Really good and unlucky on the day not to go through. Cool song, good performers and definitely one to watch. Now you need to give greater attention to group image.
Beth Penrose – Such a brave choice. There may however be some merit in staying in your vocal range and comfort zone a little longer in public performance while you develop the techniques to deliver at this level. I can hear a voice in there.
One man plan – Great energy but needs to work on looping / timing. Most enjoyable and presented with confidence. You clearly enjoyed it (this came though) and top half overall.
Jennifer – An honest performer, good vocals and image works. Convincing and should go though.
Billy Matthews – Alan Price meets Billy Joel! Great all round performance with a commercial edge. Assisted by good song choices...
Leila Jones – Like how she commanded the stage, but not sure about the songs choices. Split the judges but a really good effort, and she deservedly enjoyed it. Have you thought about a backing band to support the powerful vocals?
Dayle Ward – Liked the image and style but needs an edge. A lovely smile and bucket loads of potential but perhaps a little reserved in delivery. Not quite enough on the day…
Eliza Fyfe – Good standard, content well considered, and interesting style. Don’t forget image as an act and try to engage more. Nice melodies and harmonies.
Music Contests Bristol – Further Feedback
Talia – It looks like nerves played on the delivery which is a shame as she has a great voice!
AirRun – Some good technique and consistent / effective diction in this style but looked uncomfortable between songs. You need to develop image and stagecraft.
Ella Rothwell – Very cool! Silky smooth and highly musical. Really liked it (great guitar sound – very stylistic).
Tyley – Looked great but not sure whether really nervous? Lost sync to the backing track in places and some insecurity of technique and rhythmic placement of lyrics. Try to relax and have a vocal assessment to tackle some weaknesses.
Shaun – Seemed really honest in his performance and began well, but lost momentum. Was waiting for another gear to kick in to be honest. Work on engagement, arrangements and song choices.
Michael Foxhall-Smith – I warmed to this act, but not a good cover of Cold Play. Also spent too long between songs – this could be much slicker. (Was guitar in tune?) All this said, there was something there....
Meg Kerby – Nice, comfortable delivery but dynamic shape and greater sense of ‘performance’ would have helped enormously.
Hannah Snary – Really liked the song choice and lift in energy with second song. Some clever thinking there. Worked audience and held stage well....Vocals generally good, but need to go to the next level to match the performance.
Sophie Mendoza – Seasoned performer. Deserved to go through to the next round with a great voice and beautiful performance. However - ending was abrupt and does the image quite work?
Emily Rose – Made the song her own! Talented pianist and great originality. Vocals don’t quite yet match a clear sense of musicality, but a high standard overall.
