Shola Ama has been announced as music contest judge for Open Mic UK’s 2012 Grand Final! Billed as one of Britain’s most successful RnB artists, Shola Ama will make a valuable addition as music contest judge for the Open Mic UK with her extensive singing and song-writing abilities.

Music contest judge Shola Ama’s London based singers debut album ‘Much Love’ sold over one million copies and she enjoyed chart success with singles “You Might Need Somebody” and “You’re The One I Love”, both of which reached the top 5 of the UK charts. The culmination of her critical and commercial success resulted in four MOBO nominations with Shola going on to collect two awards for ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best RnB’. She also impressed the industry and her fans when she was nominated for two Brit awards, taking home the title of ‘Best British Female’, and will now be present at the Open Mic UK 2012 Grand Final as a music contest judge.
Amongst her many achievements within the music industry, music contest judge Shola has collaborated on the Glamma Kid single “Taboo”, reworking the Sade classic to make it her own and scoring her another top ten single. She released her sophomore album, the critically acclaimed “In Return”, co-writing 11 of the 16 tracks with a host of international writers and producers. She’s worked with legendary names like Darkchild, Babyface, Stargate, Ali Shaheed Muhhammed, Angie Stone and Shaun Labelle. Her single “Imagine” remixed by Asylum, went on to become one of the biggest club singles of the noughties. Shola co-wrote her third album, ‘Supersonic’, which is one of her most personal works to date and reveals her talent for songwriting, which is why she’ll make such a valuable addition as a music contest judge.

Since the release of her third album, music contest judge Shola returned to the UK charts in 2004, featuring on the number 8 single “You Should Really Know”, with The Pirates. Shola continues to write and record new material, making more recent appearances in the charts with “DJ Play” (2009), “Cut Above the Rest” (2009), “Blow Em Away” (2010) and “Take It Back” (2011).
Although it is too late to join in with this year’s Open Mic UK competition, you can still perform in front of industry specialists like music contest judge Shola Ama by entering the Live and Unsigned 2012 competition!
