Balham Singing Auditions: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the Open Mic UK competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Balham Singing Auditions - Singing Feedback

Jade Tedaldi – Good eye contact to connect us to your song - click here for the importance of eye contact. Look to push through the hook of the song (as you did towards the end of the song) and be careful not to drown out your vocals with your guitar, click here for more on guitar dynamics to be even better. The song has lots of potential so keep writing as much as you can and click here for more on writing songs with that killer song chorus. Keep working on your pitch for those high notes. Make them more dynamic to build vocal expression.

Amelia Hankin – Lovely tone, take care not to push the vocal too hard and lose your control. Take care with your breathing and adapt the song to be more comfortable for you to sing. Click here for more on performing a creative cover. Try and reach out emotionally to the essence of the song. The song was sung well, however you need to relax and pace the song and engage with the audience more.

Rebecca Barry – Good expression, click here for more on the importance of singing with emotion. Use all the tools at your disposal - move your body and use your hands to express the emotion of the song even more. A diverse vocal delivery, good facial expressions and sung with passion.

Commit even more to the performance, don’t be frightened to move around and use the stage even more, click here for more on stage presence. Look to use dynamics to alter the variation of the delivery. You looked nervous at times, but there is definitely potential there!

Giacamo – A lovely, natural performance, particularly the raspy top notes. Good pacing on the song, sung clearly and a good key change. Going forward, would love you to make the cover your own and really change around the lyrics or, better still, combine with your own lyrics or do a mash up - click here for more on song mash ups and click here for more on performing a creative cover. If you aren’t writing songs click here for getting started on writing lyrics.

Perdy Vydra – Well done for performing an original song, fantastic! I really enjoyed the delivery, you had a clear stage presence and had me feeling an emotional connection to the song. Lovely song and your vocal sounded sweet; left me wanting to hear more, hopefully you have 20-30 songs. Click here for more on writing that killer song chorus, in case you are looking for any more tips but keep writing as much as you can. Start to focus on the softer elements of your voice. One to watch for the live shows!

Alani Hajithornes – Super unique vocal, maybe consider standing up to play to give yourself more movement. Also look to read the following article for tips on even more vocal dynamics to vary the delivery and click here for more on guitar dynamics. I liked that you made the song your own, click here for more on performing a creative cover. I think you are ready to perform your own songs, so click here for more on getting started on songwriting. You have a naturally strong voice and good performance.

Cassia Easlick – You have a super vocal, we’d like to hear who you are as an individual - so it is important you perform covers as creatively as possible, don’t try to mimic anyone else’s voice - click here for more on performing a creative cover. Kaitlin Roughton – You were nervous – which is normal! Look to perform as much as you can to overcome these nerves - click here for more on dealing with nerves as a singer. Never stop in a performance as it just highlights your error. Allow yourself to slow down, relax and let go; breath control with help. Vocally look to take care of your vocal, warm up properly to sing to the best of your ability, click here for more on how to warm up your vocals.

Katie Smith – You picked a hard song! It’s a big, soulful, gospel song; but your voice feels like it would be better suited to more folk song, have a look at this article to read up on the importance of song choice. You have a good tone, but you need to take care with your pitching and you could do with strengthening your vocal projection. Pitching wise, be careful - look to work with a vocal coach to be even better - click here for tips on picking the right singing teacher for you.

Kathryn Horncastle – Started a little too quiet, you seemed nervous, try to find a confident pose, bring your hands down and practice more eye contact. Look to practice as much as you can to improve your confidence. Click here for more on dealing with nerves as a singer. You need to take care with your pitching and you could do with strengthening your projection, look to work with a vocal coach to be even better - click here for tips on picking the right singing teacher for you. Lauren Walker - Lovely tone, take care not to push the vocal too hard and lose your control. Click here for more on performing a creative cover. Also consider adding more dynamics to add some colour and keep the interest going throughout, click here for more on vocal dynamics. We can tell that you worked hard on your performance, just try and relax more which will allow the performance to feel more natural. However, your voice was clear and you sang well.

Tara Salerno – First impressions are very important to make us stand and pay attention; you had a strong presence and look, however the song however started off very quietly and took a while to get go going. Maybe consider a song with more impact to really grab us - click here for more importance of song choices. Also, work on diction; I struggled at times to understand what you were singing about, click here for more on diction for singers.

Sean Costello - Look to practice as much as you can to improve your confidence. No need to do too much! Let your voice settle, pace carefully and don’t rush.

Ola Popoola – I liked the originality, yet the familiarity of a cover instrumental. It was a great idea to freestyle along to a familiar song and put your own spin on it – it shows versatility and talent. However, you need to commit more to the performance and use more of the stage to bring more energy; you have a presence but you need to build your confidence - click here for more on stage presence. Better dynamics will really push you through the hook, and you should focus on conviction in your lyrical delivery - click here for more on vocal dynamics. Maintain eye contact and project your voice.

Dominique Bacheven – It is really important to be fully prepared, learn the words! It really impacted your performance as your eyes were always down – it is important to engage with your audience. Practice and practice more, this will build your confidence. You have a strong belt in your voice, but take care with your pitching and you could do with strengthening that projection even more. Look to work with a vocal coach to be even better - click here for tips on picking the right singing teacher for you. I liked that you worked the stage, however look to do it with more purpose - click here for more on stage presence.
