Singers and songwriters came to show off their talent at the Birmingham singing auditions

 birmingham singing auditions

Birmingham Singing Auditions: Singers and songwriters came to The NEC in Birmingham for the Birmingham singing auditions in the hopes of gaining a place in the Open Mic UK Birmingham Regional Finals.

Music industry judges are at every stage of the music competition from the auditions to the Grand Final, including judges that work for the three major record labels (Universal, Warner and Sony) in attendance at last year’s competition, as well as national radio DJs, regional press and BBC Introducing, with judges getting more prestigious as the competition progresses.

Birmingham Singing Auditions: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the Open Mic UK competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Feedback for Birmingham Singing Auditions

Chloe Dring – You have potential but you need to start to add a lot more performance and expression to your audition. Also ensure you warm up fully before an audition, so you’re completely ready ahead of your performance, click here for tips on how to warm up your vocals.

Margarita Peltekis – Great that you are performing your own song, click here for more on songwriting and that all important chorus. To be even better look to work on your projection, click here for tips on vocal projection. Performing as much as you can will build your confidence.

Nicole Sherwood – Good intensity and focus. Liked your projection which gave us a strong audition. Look to use more expression and use your body movements even more to convey the emotion in the song, click here for more on how to sing with emotion.

Caitlin Mitchell – Great that you are performing your own song, make sure you keep performing your own songs. Performance wise- make sure you don’t look down so much took you a while to get into the song but once you settled the performance got stronger, click here for more on eye contact

Julianna Winogradski – Good projection and you varied the dynamics very well. A good intensity and presence for an overall audition. Just take care with your pitch on occasions, click here for more on working on your vocal exercises

Mollie Hickman – Nice rasp to your vocal to give a super tone. Need to perform more with the guitar so your more comfortable to look up and perform, click here more tips on playing guitar. The song is good and you’re on the right lines with the songwriting!

Fionn Guerin – Good confidence and you performed it well. Try and reach out more with your eyes, click here for the importance of eye contact for a performer.

Emilia Piekorz – You have a sweet vocal but look to work more on your projection, click here for tips on vocal projection. Performed it well but perhaps look to make the song your own click here for more on performing a creative cover. I’d look to speed up the tempo of the song.

Will Naisbitt – Lovely gravelly vocal and a good presence on the keys. Performance wise- ensure you look up and engage your audience click here for more on performing with music keyboards. For more movement in the performance consider standing.

Luke Glentwort – Well you dressed for the part, but with the accent is this more of an impression than expressing yourself as an act. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.

Anna Kelly – Great theme and a good bridge to the chorus, work on that delivery to be even better. Also, look to check your guitar tuning click here for more on preparing for singing auditions.

Open Mic UK – Birmingham Singing Auditions

Keira Loftus – A very nervy performance, try to keep your calm, click here for more on dealing with nerves. Slow down and keep your composure.

Sophie Alexandra – Try and bring more emotion to your performance click here for more on singing with facial expressions and click here for more on being a stage performer.

Milly Aps – Lots of potential, just try and relax you felt quite tight. Also consider dynamics to really give us more range, ensure you keep your control throughout, on occasions you were forcing the vocal and losing the control, click here for more on vocal dynamics.

Ben Hughes – Lovely song and you have a super range for an overall engaging performance. Look to really punch out that vocal hook to be even better, click here for more on a killer song chorus.

Katie Goodman – Good song choice, but remember it’s important you make the song your own click here for more on performing a creative cover

Lauren Hughes – Look to put your bottle of water and hand bag down and give us a performance. Also consider your audience as the eye contact was lacking click here for more on the importance of eye contact.

Emmanuel Pandala – Remember to look up and engage your audience you looked down throughout. You have a nice authentic sound to your vocal and you made the song your own which was great, click here for more on performing a creative cover.

Courtney Hurcombe – Quite a static performance, remember to act and convey the emotion in the songs. Look to click here for more on performing a creative cover as you have a super vocal.

Kim Harrison – Super power to your vocal and a lovely rasp. The cajon should have driven the tempo a lot harder and been more instrumental in giving the song more dynamic so have a think about what you are trying to achieve there.

Susanna Pollard – Try not to screw your face up too much you need to embrace the optimism and positivity in the song not just the pain and anguish. Click here for more on the singing with facial expressions as an artist.

Robert Shingler – Visually, you aren’t portraying the story. Use your eyes to connect with your audience and tell us the story. Click here for more on the importance of eye contact for a musician.

Samarii Young – You have a nice vocal and tone without a distinct sound. Try and find your own sound. The more you perform out the more confidence will grow and the more you can look to build your stage presence, click here for more on being a stage performer.

Jake Airey – Very comfortable on the guitar and your vocal is very punchy. Good projection and an overall super audition. Going forward click here for more on performing a creative cover.
