BRIGHTON MUSICIANS WANTED TO IMPRESS

Musicians wanted to impress music industry judges at the Brighton Open Mic UK auditions, who have provided feedback for the Under 16 acts!

 Brighton Musicians Wanted

Brighton musicians wanted to impress: National singing competition Open Mic UK held auditions at The Hove Centre this weekend in a search for the region’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists. The Brighton musicians wanted to impress, as with a place in the Open Mic UK 2014 Regional Finals up for grabs, the acts that auditioned had a lot to play for!

The Brighton auditions were judged by music industry specialists who have provided music industry feedback for a selection of acts. The people the Brighton musicians wanted to impress were Dionne Slater from Vocademy, Lora Munro of Theatre Workshop, Cameron Devlin from Hidden Cam Studios, singing teacher, Nadia Strahan and Head of Future Music, Chris Grayston.

Joshua Bateup – Well rehearsed but try and perform as well as sing. Would benefit from some private singing lessons; click here for the importance of singing lessons.

Esmee Willson Good vocals but you needed to perform and express a little more to be even better. Also think about song choice it was a very popular song choice, click here for more information on song choice.

Morgan Smith – Vocally really come on from last time we saw her, image has changed again so maybe need to settle on one you are comfortable with, click here for advice on act image. Not sure this was the best song choice for you; click here for importance of song choice.

Harry Court – Loved the song. Really nice on the ear and a confident performance to give an overall good audition.

Jasmine Andine – Nice tone, going forward try and project your vocal more. Don’t forget to perform and express the emotion in the song also; click here for advice on singing with emotion.

Millie Fraser – Great that you did you own song. Don’t forget to engage with your audience and you lacked any expression, click here for tips on facial expression. Consider is the ukulele the best instrument for your song?

Poppy Taylor – Nice vocals but the song choice is too popular, click here for more information on song choice.

Daisy Taylor – Good vocals but it’s a song that screams a performance and expression and you were too static. More performance will build the confidence, click here for tips on stage performance.

Charleigh Hayes – Really nice vocals, think about making them the performance more original, click here with tips on how to perform a creative cover. Also you need to think about performing more, not enough to just fold your arms. Click here for tips on performance.

Connie Steel – Good vocals but the song choice was dated and it’s such a popular cover it’d difficult for you to stand out, click here for more information on song choice.

Maisie Peters – Great to hear your original song but need build your vocal to be able to project more. Song is really cool. Don’t forget to make eye contact with your audience.

Harriet Bull – Was a nervy performance and you expressed these nerves, you need to perform more and try and relax as much as you can. It’s not enough just to sing, click here for tips on performance.

Alyssa Feary – Good effort. Perhaps consider a lesser known song to perform, it’s difficult for you to stand out if lots of people sing it, click here for the importance of song choice.

Born 2 Blush – Very polished and it was good that only one of you did the talking, good media training ;). Harmonies and performance are very well rehearsed.

Holly Fraser – Engage with your audience and express the emotion in the song to be even better. Work on your confidence to try and enhance the performance.

Brighton musicians wanted – feedback continued

Minni Whiffen – Nicely song but a very static performance which you needed to express more, click here for tips on performance.

Amelie Farrington – Potential is there but you have to pick the right song as it was too big for you, click here for the importance of song choice.

Madeline Slater – Loads of potential. A polished and cute performance with good expression.

Tallulah Swallow – Talented girl just need more performance as lacked a bit of performance, click here for tips on performance. Your voice sounds really nice in the lower register.

Lily Moram – Good connection with the song which you expressed so well. Cracking vocal. Lots of potential for musical theatre.

Fintan Rawstone – Good key playing and good you looked up to engage. Try and work on improving the projection of your vocals. Very talented, keep working to develop your own songs; click here for advice on writing songs.

Victoria Barnes – Lovely vocals just be careful with the song choice as it’s a very popular one. Click here for the importance of song choice.

Mattie Elliott – Lovely tone but very quiet look to improve your projection as start so low.

Chloe Morgan – Lovely vocal but click here for the importance of song choice as it’s a very dated and popular song choice.

Florence Strange – Good song choice, really commit to that chorus. Work for a bigger performance; also try not to keep your hand on your stomach.

Taylor Little – Before you started you’d picked such a big song and song choice is so important! Click here for the importance of song choice. It’s a song difficult to put your personality on.

Leah Sheridan – Good expression of the song just be careful not to push the vocal and lose control. Be careful not to overuse the hands when you’re performing.

Daniel Neale – Good engagement and a confident performance. A better song choice may highlight the nicer tones in your vocal range. Click here for more information on song choice.

Freya Morris – Song has potential and experimenting with your image will help you get on the right lines, click here for act image advice.

Hope Day – Need a few more performances to build up your confidence but you are on the right lines and the potential is there. Try attending a couple of open mic nights to build your confidence, click here for open mic nights for singers.

Finlay Frost – You did really well and you looked cool but the song was a little dated. For next time, perhaps add a modern twist or make a different song choice, click here for information on song choice.

Laines – Harmonies could have been a bit brighter as they were a bit low and dull. Potential suggests you are better than that.

Kelsey Browne – A good performance and a confident act. Better dynamics will project the chorus to be even better.

Skybee – As a duo you must do harmonies, no point singing the same lines. Also the song choice is so important and you chose a very popular one. Click here for importance of song choice.

Patrick Wells – Very theatrical which does make the performance a little over rehearsed. Vocally, it was a very bold and mature performance.

Brighton musicians wanted – feedback continued

Georgia Cudby – A confident performance which you looked up to make it engaging and you made the cover your own so it was a good audition.

Chloe Dursley – Lovely tone but think dynamics as the vocals tended to remain too much on one level. Need to work on projection and strength; a vocal coach will be able to help you with this. Click here for the benefits of singing lessons.

Trinity Huband – Good performance. Potential is there by need to build the projection of your vocal more to be even better.

Beth Moore – Nice to hear such a quirky song choice! Good idea and you made the cover your own; click here for more tips on doing a creative cover. Try and keep the flow going as it stuttered a little in places.

Tasha Barney – A little nervy, try and engage a little more with the audience so we connect with you as an act, click here for tips on building your confidence.

Antonio Conte – Guitar work was good and song was quality. Remember to look up and engage with us.

Brittany – Nice quality, need to work on your strength and projection.

Layla Karn – Potential is there but you need to work on your projection to be even better. More performance will improve your confidence. Audition got better as it went on.

Clarisse Mizoule – Doing a foreign song isn’t the worst idea but if we don’t know the lyrics is one less thing in your favour.

Melissa Hart – Good vocals but don’t be frightened to use your arms to express the song. Click here for tips on performing visually.

Megan Parr – Confident start, and you expressed the song well in your eyes. Be careful with your pitch.

Harriet Hoad – Vocal potential but you just stared at the ceiling for the whole performance. Click here for tips on performing visually.

Mary Smith – Great you are writing your own songs but you need to work on your vocal projection. Better dynamics will help to drive through the projection of the hooks.

Amber Foxley – Vocally strong but now think to make it your own, click here for tips on doing a creative cover. Song choice is also important as you struggled to keep it under control.

Charlotte Roberts – Clear diction, watch your breath control to save some for the bigger notes.

Mia Maskell - You can see the potential but more performance required to build that confidence. Keep practising!

Gabrielle – Watch your breathing as you are losing control.

Nathan Reeve – Fantastic for 9 and developing well, look to work on your projection to be even better.

Natalie Moore – Strong voice. Good projection and confident backing on guitar to drive the performance.

Lauren Bristow – Think dynamics both with expression and with your vocals.

Kia Hayward – Just be careful with your song choice it’s a very popular one and that makes it difficult for you to stand out, click here for importance of song choice.

Estelle Alleyne – Adele is incredibly hard  as a cover on a number of levels as she’s so popular and so respected, it’s always going to be hard to get anywhere near her so make it really different or select a different song. Click here for information on song choice.
