The judging panel at the Camden music opportunities were;

  • Natalie Shay - Previous Open Mic UK Winner
  • Bobby Mitchell - Talent Talks
  • Anna Russell - AR Agency and Vocal Management
  • Gerry Driver - Photo Groupie/Flea Magazine

Camden Music Opportunities: See industry feedback below. Please be aware views expressed by judges are opinions and subjective to that particular judging panel. These views in no way reflect the views of the Open Mic UK competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Under 16's Feeback - Camden Music Opportunities

Norika – You were very nervy to start with, click here for more on how to calm nerves. Look to add more dynamics to keep the interest going throughout and to give us more vocal range in particular. Bear in mind that you don’t need to ornament the end of every single line.

Abi Sowery – Look to use all the tools at your disposal; at present you aren’t using your hands to express the emotion in the song. Try to use the stage as much as possible to connect even more to your audience. Click here for more on singing with facial expressions

Lexie – Nice tone and lots of potential but try to pick a song that is more suited to your voice. Also look to add more performance, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers. You were very static; look to use the stage more and click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Look to perform as much as you can to learn your stage craft and build confidence.

Sophie Evans – Super vocal and loved your image, however you picked a very popular song, as it was a previous winner (Birdy) so it’s difficult to do it any better. Look to do a cover in your own style or way, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. Adding or changing the delivery or dynamics will give greater depth and colour, click here for more on adding vocal dynamics.

Aza Ismail – Need to practice more as you were looking down way too much. Click here for the importance of eye contact as a singer. Liked your cover arrangement, but work on the piano to make the performance smoother.

Melat – There’s a place for singing acapella, click here for information on when to sing acapella or not. When under pressure, a backing track will assist you with timing and tidy up hearing your breathing. Look to add more facial expression, click here for tips on singing with facial expressions

Adam – It was a very nervy performance, click here for more on dealing with the nerves. Look to add more performance values; use the stage, use your hands and give more movement. Take care with your diction, click here for more on how to improve diction as a singer.

Eleanor Lynsky – There’s a place for singing acapella, when under pressure, a backing track will assist you with timing and tidy up hearing your breathing. Look to use the stage, click here for more on  stage performance tips for singers. Song choice was a bit dated, click here for more on the importance of song choices.

Jana Justus – Very animated performance which was very engaging. Try and keep it with a degree more of comfort, it felt a little rushed and frantic at times, so keep your composure and control throughout. Look to use the stage more, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.

Diana Hysenaj – Cool trousers to make you stand out, click here for more on the importance of singer's image and how to make it work to your advantage. A nervy performance, click here for more on how to calm nerves.  More performance will certainly help to build confidence as you have ability!

Ash Hellier –  Liked your image and the arrangement, to be even better, get closer to that mic, click here for tips on microphone technique.  Also look to develop your diction; try to be clearer and punch out certain words or lines, click here for more on how to improve diction as a singer. This will also help you to add dynamics, click here for adding guitar dynamics

Alana Keeley – Look to get closer to that mic, click here for more on  microphone technique. Look to commit more to performance, you are expressing but not enough to be clear; you need a range to convey the emotion of the song. Click here for more on the importance of singing with facial expressions. Your upper register is more powerful so would have liked to have heard more of that.

Stephanie Kamau – You picked a massive song to sing! Remember to perform from the outset, there’s a long instrumental which you could have used to settle yourself and the audience by performing through it. Look to come to the front of the stage to connect more with your audience. Give more purpose to your arms so that they can convey emotion in the song.

Donna – Look to perform as much as you can to develop. You are quite young so you need to make sure the open mic nights are family oriented.

Carla Coyne – Great to see you doing an original! Click here for more on writing that killer song chorus. Perform as much as you can so you have more confidence when you perform; you are looking down too much and not engaging with your audience. Consider standing when performing to give the opportunity for more movement in the performance.

Sabina – You picked a very popular and iconic song which means it is always going to be hard to impress, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer and click here for the importance of song choices. Look to take the mic off the stand and work the stage more, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.  Also wanted to hear some more dynamics in the voice.

Mea-Ellease – Good you used the stage and the full range of your vocal to convey the emotion of the song. Take care not to push the vocal and force it as this leads to loss of control.

Evie Grattan – You looked cool and unique which gave you an edge. Click here for more on the importance of singer's image. Try and reach out more with your eyes to connect more with your audience. Click here for more on the importance of eye contact. Click here for more on writing that killer song chorus that makes a song stand out.

Amber Foxley – Song flowed nicely, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. Look to use the stage more, you were quite static and need to show more presence, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.

Cameo – Liked that you tried to make the cover your own by slowing it down, however perhaps you could have used that dynamic to really climb into the chorus. This would increase the intensity and really drive the performance. Click here for more on adding vocal dynamics as a singer.

Lola Warmam – Good first impression and some great range with your vocal. You reached out too much for the audience participation rather than concentrating on your own performance. Adding more dynamics would have kept the interest going to the end, click here for more on adding vocal dynamics as a singer.

Selin - You have a lovely silky/raspy vocal, very unique voice! As performers try and reach out to each other to show you are performing together, just a glace or occasional smile can improve the performance. Changing the tempo was clever but on occasions it was difficult to hear what the lyrics where, click here for more on how to improve diction.

16-20's Feeback - Camden Music Opportunities

Serena Duca -  I felt like you hid behind the mic a little, take it off and work the stage, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers. Good power on the vocal, look to vary the dynamic even more, click here for more tips on vocal dynamics

Rianne- You picked a big number to sing and arguably you are never going to quite compare to the original artist. We would always advise to make it sufficiently different to stand out and show creativity click here for tips on performing a creative cover as a singer. Performance wise look to use move around the stage click here for more on the stage performance tips for singers.

Millie Carter - Try and keep your mic steady during your performance as it can affect your projection and volume levels. Really loved how you made the song your own, click here for more tips on performing a creative cover as a singer. Would like to see you commit more to the performance, work the stage more and give more stage presence, click here for more on the stage performance tips for singers

Jessie Dipper - When using a loop and pedal it is essential you get the backing up and running as soon as possible or risk losing connectivity to the audience. The song has a nice groove and you have a distinct voice, great original song try and consider adding more hooks to make it even catchier, click here for more tips on writing that killer song chorus.

Muna Salah - You have a lovely unique tone to your vocal. Try and reach out to your audience with your eyes and consider taking the microphone off the stand and work the stage more. Click here for more tips on stage performance tips for singers

Mary Eckert - Super Vocal range and good image, click here for the importance of singer's image. Your song has lots of potential but in theme of the song title look to use your eyes more to connect to your audience click here for more tips on eye contact

K-Rose - Commit more to the performance from the start; need more snap and confidence to deliver the performance that is required. Use the stage more, come towards the front of the stage to connect more to your audience and look to perform at every opportunity to refine and improve your stage presence, click here for more tips on stage performance tips for singers

Alex Mascari - Think you missed an opportunity to show us who you are as an artist by not performing your own song or performing a creative cover, the cover you did was to similar to the original, quite depressing and sleepy; needed you to change it to your own style. Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer

Chloe Halbersham - It’s a lovely song choice however it didn’t show us anything of you as an individual. Consider looking to develop your expression as not always conveying the emotion within the song, don’t forget to use the stage click here for more on stage performance tips for singers. Vocally make sure you try not to jump into the notes and keep focus on your pitch throughout, practicing with a professional singing teacher will help with this, click here for picking the right singing teacher

SJ Temi - Great image, you always look great! Click here for more on  the importance of singer's image. Try and commit as much as you can to the performance, felt like you wanted to but just go that extra mile and it will improve your performance drastically! To discover you as an artist we want to hear you do your own songs, click here for more on writing that killer song chorus

Alice Maria -  You told the story well in the song, it would have benefitted from adding more range and changing the delivery click here for more on guitar dynamicsSong has lots of potential, perhaps a change of phrasing of the chorus to make it even catchier, click here for more tips on creating a song chorus

Dan Tredget - Great to see you performing your own song but you need to add dynamics, it felt at times very monotone. Click here for more tips on vocal dynamicsThe song is great and has lots of potential.

Chifa K - You worked the stage, kept the audience engaged and you delivered your message well! Perhaps more dynamics would give more impact to certain words and sections of your words click here for more on vocal dynamics

Soph Retief - You picked a massive song to sing; iconic song by an iconic artist that has been played a lot and we are very familiar with. Arguably you are never going to quite compare to the original artist so when doing bigger songs, we suggest you put your own spin on it and make it your own. For more tips on  performing a creative cover as a singer please click the link.

21 and Over's Feeback - Camden Music Opportunities

Glada Fazi- You are singing down at your guitar rather into the mic and to the audience, it can affect your projection and volume levels click here for more on microphone technique. It is altering your projection and sound every time you look down which results in a real inconsistent sound, try and add a few more vocal dynamics

Molly Anne- Nice vibe, needed to throw a vocal hook into the song earlier to really drag us into the performance. You should look at adding more vocal dynamics to give us more range and distinguish the structure more. This would emphasis your chorus, click here for more tips on creating a song chorus!

Mrs Findley- The performance needed more dynamics and commitment, click here for more on adding vocal dynamics. You have a great image, click here for more information on the importance of singer's image. You needed to emphasis and punch out the message of the song with passion and emotion which unfortunately it lacked.

Lou Ryder- The presenter introduced you and the song, you don’t need to repeat exactly what he said. You have a lovely vocal but need to push yourself more to be more original, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. Liked how you took the mic off the stand, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers

Alex mai- You were brave and picked a big artist and popular song which is hard as you are never going to quite compare to the original artist so when doing bigger songs, we suggest you put your own spin on it and make it your own, click here for more on the importance of song choices.

Alex West- Initial lyrics are very simplistic, potentially look to rework your song writing to have home hooks, they are just too straight. Click here for more on how to write that killer song chorus.

LaBeth – This felt like karaoke, what happened to doing something to show you off as an original artist? Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. You performed well but your expression was often harsh, click here for more on the importance of expression as a singer.

Apollo’s Fire – Keep yourself close to the mic to keep the volume consistent. As performers look to reach out to each other to show that you are one, click here for more on  stage performance tips for singers

Laura Scarlet – You performed the song well and in particular the use of the stage. Your introduction was a little off putting, again no point as the presenter had just introduced you. Look to perform a creative cover of a song going forward, otherwise it is a karaoke to do the song in a similar way.

Amy Taylor – You have a lovely tone, like you to push yourself and commit more to convey the passion within the song. Click here for more onsinging with facial expression. and click here for more on adding more guitar dynamics

Shanaya – A very ambitious song choice and an iconic song and singer and you are always going to come up a distant second, click here for more on the importance of song choices. Also consider being original and when performing look to give more eye contact to engage with your audience.

Copper Viper – Cool microphone to add to your authentic vibe. Fantastic musicianship and an engaging performance. You really walked together as a duo. Great engagement with each other as you bounced off of each other.

Imani – Loved the rasp in your vocal but would much rather hear you do a creative cover and show us who you are as an artist. The song is a very popular choice and therefore hard to impress when it is a song that has been covered so much over the last couple of years. Look to use the stage more, click here for more on stage performance tips for singers.

Pilgrim’s Dream – You changed very little in your expression throughout the performance. Look to vary that to convey the emotion within the song. You can move and use your body to really emphasise the emotion and message of the song.

Daniel – You have a nice tone but perhaps look to work on your projection. Performing a West End classic does mean that you are acting a part rather than being an individual artist.

Gone Lee – Good start and first impression with an unusual sound presented by the wooden spoon. Try and engage more directly with your audience and also each other, at times you seem to switch off from performing. The song was engaging and has potential just need to work harder on conveying the story. At times, some lovely vocal arrangements.

Disaster Jack – Liked the thought that had gone into your image, click here for more on the importance of singer's image. A good committed performance. Song wise, just try to very the dynamics or structure around the chorus’ hook to make it stand  out more.

Becky Wynne – A very comfortable vocal performance, although questionable and a little safe. Look to really commit and throw yourself into the performance and vocal. Click here for more on adding vocal dynamics.

Blondie B – Nice introduction to settle you in, even if it was a bit cheesy. Liked that you made the song your own. This is a good example of doing a creative cover. Performance wise, try and stick to the front of the stage rather than at the back and in the shadows.

Soraya – You were quite a distance from the microphone and that is effecting your projection, click here for more on microphone technique. Performance wise you are looking down far too much and this is not engaging with your audience. Song has potential but needs more of a structure.

Paris Young – Liked your delivery to make it different, you also possess awesome power; look to develop your own songs as you have lots of availabilit.

Crazy Coyne – Lots of energy and a well thought out routine. Felt that you committed so much to the performance. You ran out of breath for the vocal. Hold back on the performance, perhaps more to the end.

Clint Easton - Vocally felt thatyou were a little off in places, which is a shame as you had a cool vibe and song. A;sp mic control let you down, click here for ,pre on performing a creative cover as a singer

Jabiel - You have a super vocal but you did the number one karaoke song which showed us nothing more of you as an artist, other than that you have a super vocal. Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer.

Francesca - You positioned yourself at the back of the stage where the lighting wasn't as well set up. Performing at the front of the stahe will help you also connect to your audience. Vocally 100% commitment is a great commitment, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer.

Fine China - Nice distinct image, click here for more on the importance of singer's imageLook to come to the front of the stage to connect to your audience even more.
