EXETER SINGERS WANTED TO IMPRESS

Singers wanted to impress music industry judges at the Exeter Open Mic UK auditions, who have provided feedback for the 16-20 acts!

 Exeter Singers Wanted

Exeter singers wanted to impress: National singing competition Open Mic UK held auditions at The Exeter Corn Exchange this weekend in a search for the region’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists. The Exeter singers wanted to impress, as with a place in the Open Mic UK 2014 Regional Finals up for grabs, the acts that auditioned had a lot to play for!

The Exeter auditions were judged by music industry specialists who have provided music industry feedback for a selection of acts. The people the Exeter musicians wanted to impress were vocal coach Chris Gulley, singer teacher Christopher Harknett, Anthony Lock from One Umbrella Music   and Head of Future Music, Chris Grayston.

Harriet Seed – Sweet voice. Need more performance to take your audition to the next level. Good expression and connection emotionally to the song, click here for more tips on singing with emotion.

Ben Rogers – Great voice. Some nice guitar work. Good chemistry and connection emotionally to the song, click here for more tips on singing with emotion.

Kieran Little Johns – Good vocal control, definitely improved at the chorus. Potential is there but a nervy start came through in the vocals when you needed to be on point from the word go.

Elisha Milverton – Best vocal of the day so far. Vocally really strong. The song choice was popular and slightly dated, so try finding a fresher song choice, click here for the importance of song choice.

Adam Franklin – Cajon gave the performance some drive. Don’t forget to give eye contact and engage with your audience, click here tips on performing visually.

Reece – Liked the backing track. Make sure your image reflects your performance. Felt like a very natural performance.

Georgia – Lovely vocal and good control. The song choice is dated and too popular, making it harder for you to stand out, click here for the importance of song choice.

Daniel Annear – Nicely sung but dynamics are key for you to be even better, click here for advice on dynamics.

Keeley Cummings – Performed it well but think about song choice. You have to be more original to make yourself stand out from the crowd, click here for tips on making the song your own.

Ethan Young – Guitar work was good. Use dynamics to really deliver the song to the next level, click here for advice on dynamics.

Eno Akpan – Nervy performance which you needed to perform more, click here tips on performing visually.  Don’t be afraid to use your hands to perform.

David Parfitt – Nice tone, but work on improving your projection, click here for tips on improving projection. Better dynamics will also give greater emphasis to the chorus, click here for advice on dynamics.

Becky Howe – Tone is good but the projection needs to improve, click here for tips on improving projection. Try and introduce dynamics into your performance and it’ll naturally improve; click here for advice on dynamics.

Freddie House – Good delivery and strong audition. Great dynamics.

Sharna Bradford – Potential is there but you need more performance to learn to perform more effectively, click here tips on performing visually.

Exeter singers wanted - feedback continued

Kate Brown – Control of vocal was good. Remember to choose a song that allows you to put your own spin on it, click here for tips on making the song your own and click here for the importance of song choice.

Izzy Strawbridge – Tone and diction was excellent. Work the dynamics vocally and performance wise to get to the next level, click here for advice on dynamics.

Joshie Beard – You’ve written a song that really suits your vocal range. Use dynamics and projection to really drive through the chorus, click here for tips on improving your projection and click here for advice on dynamics.

Laura Isaac – Nice vocal tone but it lacked performance to give it life, click here tips on performing visually.

Danny Rogers – Good drive to the performance. Take care to tidy up guitar work and missing out the odd vocal phrase.

Rosa Trivett – An engaging and easy performance. Used dynamics well but picking up the tempo can also help drive through the chorus, click here for advice on dynamics.

Rushil Ranjan – Good song, use eye contact to engage more with the audience, click here tips on performing visually.

Bernard Woahae – A good vocal coach will be able to help you out with projection and tuning to be even better, click here for the benefits of singing lessons.

Diena Parke – Strong vocally. Think about the song choice; try to be creative in order to make it more original. Click here for tips on making the song your own and click here for the importance of song choice.

Alissa – Different and vocally strong with good control. To take it to the next level, work on your performance to be more engaging, click here tips on performing visually.

Lady Rose – Take care with your diction and clarity, click here for tips on improving your diction. Also try to tighten up on your vocal control.

Kay Mitchell – Vocally strong. Make sure pick a song that shows you off as an act rather than try to compete with the original, click here for tips on making the song your own.

Nicole Finch – Lots of character in your vocal, try not to pick such an obvious cover, click here for the importance of song choice.

Emily Bunclark – Liked that you moved around. Watch your diction and bring greater dynamics to your performance. Click here for tips on improving diction and click here for advice on dynamics.

Luke Muldren - Difficult to be original doing a theatrical number but vocally you are really strong.

Phoebe Lea - This song choice is very popular this year so it's really important to make the right song choice and make it creative. Click here for the importance of song choice and click here for tips on making the song your own.
