Singers and songwriters came to impress at a show for Glasgow music opportunities at Airdrie Town Hall

 

Glasgow Music Opportunities: Open Mic UK gave budding singers Glasgow music opportunities at the weekend. The singers and songwriters came to perform in front of industry judges in the hopes of getting through the Glasgow music opportunities and onto the next round of the competition. 

The judging panel at the Glasgow music opportunities were;

Under 16's Feedback – Glasgow Music Opportunities

Cam- You’re a very confident lad! You handled it well, we would like to hear more. Click here for more on building stage confidence as a singer. You are extremely talented and your passion oozes throughout, without you taking a breather! We enjoyed the performance – well done.

Katelin Tierney – From the start it was obvious you have a lovely recordable voice with nice harmonies; it had a pop feel to the performance! You are very confident and a star in the making, click here for more on building stage confidence as a singer.

Aimee Bryceland – Very lovely vocals very theatrical singing, you would be great in theatre production. We can you see you in a main starring theatre role very soon! However, for this competition, you will need to find your own voice. Lennon Wylie – For a young boy starting at an early age, you are a lot of fun and have a good energy! You were flat in some places – this is something a vocal coach could help you with. Abby Allan – Fantastic pitches in the vocal with a professional star quality, you were almost haunting at parts. You have lots of confidence and a real grown up voice - which works well for you! Really enjoyed the performance. Click here for more on building stage confidence as a singer.

Erin Dunn – Perfect rendition of ‘I dreamed a dream’, was nicely sung! Fantastic voice and a great performance overall. Have a think about how to use the stage to make the performance more engaging for your audience. Click here for stage performance tips for singers

Jennifer – A very impressive performance with a nice stage presence, you moved around slightly, but we could have seen a little bit more movement. Cecily Douglas – There were a few pitching problems at the start, although you minimize them as the song went on! As they disappeared we could hear a great vocal. Work with a good vocal coach to teach you methods on how to better your singing vocals, click here for tips on finding the right singing teacher for you. You have potential, keep working hard!

Ellen – Very nice vocal for such a young girl, we loved the song which you handled very well. Click here to read about the importance of song choices. Hollie Robinson – Professional vocal and pitch perfect, the audience feel silent listening to you! Click here for tips on audience engagement. You had nice control over your vocals, would like to see you put a bit more emotion into your song. Sasha Kaloheris – Lovely song choice and a great performance, click here for more on importance of song choices. 16-20's Feedback - Glasgow Music Opportunities

Sally – Your very confident with a good range and tone, click here for more on building stage confidence as a singer. A good performance, but you seem to start shouting towards the end! Keep control of your vocals throughout. Click here for vocal exercises for singers – this will help manage this.

Eve Robertson – You had some lovely tones to your vocals, but you seemed a little nervous which effected you voice. Click here for tips on how to calm nerves. A good song choice! Axel Borel – You brought a lot of passion to the performance! This was lovely to see and hear. Abby Cassidy – You were very nervous while performing which affected your vocal delivery. Click here for tips on how to calm nerves. Hayleigh Harper – You have a nice strong vocal, a little pitchy in places but you put on a good performance! Regarding the pitch issues, work with a singing teacher to help minimize these. 21 and Over’s Feedback - Glasgow Music Opportunities 

Sara N Junbug – You guys are a really tight band. You all connected well as a group, click here for more tips for music duos and groups. We really enjoyed the song, very catchy and commercial which was delivered well. Keep working hard and you will have great potential!

Robyn Taylor – You have an amazing voice, very strong and rasp! You have great control on your vocals. You have a fantastic stage presence and you work the stage well, click here for more stage performance tips for singers. Lizzie Michele – Loved the individuality! You are very unique, you have great confidence. We really liked the concept of the song, kept you tuned into the performance. Louise Barron – You have a powerful, strong voice with fantastic depth but in some places the pitch was off. Your performance was fun and a bit of a ‘Bassey’ impersonator with Starry Eyes, but was a good performance overall.

Peter – You perform with great emotion, with some really nice deep; breathy tones to your voice, click here for more on how to sing with emotion. The song didn’t suit your voice; consider choosing a song that you can bring your own spin to as an artist. Lima Grueva – Great piano playing! The song had a story to tell but it could have been built better, click here for more tips on writing songs and writing that killer chorus. Ana Espinoza – A very confident performance with a great stage presence! However, the movements you made didn’t link to the song, click here for stage performance tips for singers. Nice vocal control - your voice is powerful! Maybe look at developing a head voice. 

Hannah – If you are collaborating with someone else make sure you practice; the instrument was out of tune and the timings where all off. Click here for tips on standard guitar tuning. Luckily this didn’t affect your singing, as you have a great voice! Try connecting with the audience, it was lacking some engagement. Click here for tips on audience engagement

Xander – Practice in front of the mirror more and watch how you perform. The song you sung was perfect for your voice, click here for more tips on song choices. You have great smooth vocals and good control! Try and be careful with some notes as it sounded a little strained at times.

Linda – You have some really nice tones in your voice, work on finding your strongest range and work within that! The song was good but a little to safe, felt it could have built into more of a climax. Click here for more on song choices. Overall a really nice relaxing performance – well done!

Bethany Janette – Nice song, relaxing, soothing vocals – your performance was very good! You do need to develop the song a little more: Greater color could have enhanced it. ANA FILOGONIO – The power in your voice is amazing! Great brilliant operatic singer. Moving forward look at contrast of voice/colors throughout. Consider your top range and play about with vibrato speed against pure sound. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. A very touching song, overall well done!

Harry Bodley-Scott – Harry you’re a natural singer; you know how to work your guitar, very likeable. Click here for guitar playing tips. Nice originality with your song but experiment with the delivery in different keys to see which is the most suitable to your voice. Overall you have a good voice and certainly have potential.  

Billy M Jack – You had good energy and stage performance! Any head/ neck movements affect your vocal. Open your eyes to connect with the audience, looking around will be more engaging for them. Darrell Cram – Nice pleasant singer, the song could do with more aamph! Click here for tips on building stage confidence as a singer. Watch the timing of the song. Hugh Livingston Barclay –  Nice version of the song. However, you could have done more with it vocally. Lower range needs strengthening – click here for tips on vocal dynamics. Fabulous version of hallelujah: talented guitar too. This is a favorite song of mine and you sang it well! 

GLASGOW MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES

All singers and songwriters successful through the Glasgow music opportunities progressed onto the next stage of the competition at the North West England and Scotland Area Final Showcase which will be held at The Forum Theatre on Sunday 26th November.
