Singers were given feedback at the London Auditions

London Auditions: Feedback was provided by music industry judges at the London auditions this weekend in Dingwalls, Camden. The London auditions gave singers the opportunity to gain a place in the Regional Finals of Open Mic UK.

London Auditions - Under 16’s Feedback

Sadie Smith – You have very crisp vocals and a lovely smile! Good song choice and you expressed well with your hands. Push even more with the vocal dynamics to further enhance the chorus. Click here for some tips on your vocal dynamics

Ella Heryet – You have a good tone to your vocal. Song wise, look to be creative with your performance! Click here for more on performing a creative cover and how you can make that work for you. Make sure you warm up full so the high notes are more comfortable. Click here for some tips on singing warm-ups before a performance. 

Rosie Solomons – Practise and performing more regular will make your overall performance more confident. Click here for tips on your performance.  As the song went on, you grew into the performance – work on keeping it consistent.

Alysia – We liked the break down rap! Consider slowing down. You seemed to rush it; although this may have been down to nerves. Click here for more on how to calm your nerves. Nice flow with the raping though - good idea!

Lois Williamson – Very theatrical and you performed it well! Meaning you were acting a role as opposed to being original. You used your hands and gestured well. However concentrate on your eye contact to engage with your audience. Click here for the importance of eye contact.

Ioana Mitanu - A very big song to choose! You did yourself justice but you might be pushing yourself too hard with song choices. Because of this we could sense some nerves and the possibility of not fully warming up your vocals. Click here for the importance of singing warm-ups and click here for the importance of song choices. Choosing a different song and putting your own twist on it might be more beneficial for you.

Roddy Brewer – Nice that you performed with a ukulele! However, it did seem to slow down the performance and may have been why you looked down a lot in your performance. Liked the high notes and the way you made the song your own! Click here for the importance of performing a creative cover . Be careful to watch your tempo - which sometimes was dedicated by your playing rather than planned dynamics.

Eddie Jones – Nice tone! Although it felt like you need work on developing your vocal dynamics. Research a good vocal teacher who will be able to assist you to be even better. Click here for why a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you.

Jeremiah Emmanuel – You have very strong vocals! You now need to think about your posture - you looked awkward at times. Learn on where to position your hands and how to use them to convey the emotion in the song. Click here for more on being able to sing with emotion during the performance.

Malika Emmanuel – A nervous performance! Click here for more on how to calm nerves. Your posture looked awkward. You didn’t know where to position your hands and you really need to ensure your hands are conveying the emotion in the song. More performing and practice will help with both issues. 

Aliyah Lassey – A nice sensitive performance! Being picky here - try and connect to your audience, a look or a glance to show you’re on the same team and show you are enjoying it! Magick – Maybe work on your projection during your singing! Click here for some tips on improving your vocal projection.  A vocal coach will be able to assist you to be even better. Click here for why a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you. Also look to compress the backing track. It was very quiet to start with then thundered in. 

Under 16’s Feedback for the London Auditions

Arya Magwani – A solid and committed performance! If you change up your vocal dynamics you will make the performance even more engaging. Also make sure you warm up fully every time you perform to make the high notes more comfortable. Click here for the importance of singing warm-ups.

Bethany Lyttle - A very big song to choose! Consider choosing a different song that you can put your own twist on. You did yourself justice but your putting yourself under pressure with a big song – we could feel some nerves and that you needed to warm up your vocals. Chloe Nicoles Cervantes – You have a lovely tone!  Now you need to concentrate on conveying the expression of the song more. Click here for more on being able to sing with emotion. Body language is also massive to convey the emotion in the song.

Perdy – The potential is there! You need to start with a bang. You had a slow start but as the performance went on you flourished. You need to keep practising your performance to perfect it throughout the whole two minutes. Click here for some tips on your stage performance.

Sia Thomas – You have a nice crisp vocal! Going forward look to perform a creative cover to make the song your own and show originality. Aarti Patel – Good projection! But don’t sacrifice power for control. A good vocal coach will help you be even better and enhance the tone. Power and control will be even better! Click here for why a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you.

Chi Ennis-McClean – Super unique vocal, a confident delivery and good projection! You kept good eye contact throughout you performance, meaning the audience was fully engaged with you. Click here for the importance of eye contact. Well done!

London Auditions – 16-20’s Feedback

Neil Antoine – Look to strengthen up your vocal. A good singing teacher/vocal coach will be able to assist in enhancing your projection and range. Click here for why a singing teacher could be very beneficial for you. You have potential!

Annabel Dersy – Lovely husky vocal! Make use more of your body and hand gestures to bring the emotion of the song alive. Click here for some tips on your stage performance.

Maria Manuel – Take care with your diction, it does affect the audience connecting to your performance as they could struggle to make out the lyrics. Morgan Taylor Smith - Lovely tone! Need to look now to perform more and convey the expression of the song. Click here for more on being able to sing with emotion. Body language discussed, this will massively improve your performance. 

Zaira – Strong gospel vocal! But make sure you don’t force it. You’re expressing good emotion that engages your audience. Maybe work on vocal dynamics to show off your good singing ability! Click here for some tips on your vocal dynamics.

Maya Sakey - Lovely tone, good projection and range although at times you are forcing it, so watch your control. A good vocal coach will develop your control and range to be even better. Be careful to watch your tempo consider practicing with a metronome so don’t wander too off with your timing.  Your eye contact and expression is good but by the end of the performance you need to change it around more. Jessica Leslie – You need to keep control of your vocal and use the projection sparingly. Feelgoodandwhat – Nice sentiment but you need to practice a lot more as it’s not well rehearsed. With practise comes a more confident performance! Also make sure your music and image is in sync - click here for more on singer's image

Feedback from London Auditions

Kayla Jordan – You have very sweet and clean vocals, you really connected to the song which is very important! Maddie West – You have a beautiful voice and chose a great song to perform. This song worked really well with your voice. Click here for the importance of the right audition song. Coral Lawrence – You have a lovely voice and you did very well despite choosing such a tough song to perform. Maya Lakhami – You performed very well! The introduction of the song was very well structured. Try to drive the dynamics more to push through the hook. Elizabeth Garstin – You have lovely vocals and tone. Your CD was very low in volume so always make sure it is the best possible quality. Tim Winstone – You performed very well with good confidence. Lyrically your song was very solid and well written however it was written in a key that best suited the sweeter tone in your vocals. Rob Hodkinson – Your performance was very good. You have a great vocal tone and you performed confidently. Lee Sullivan – Try to practise performing as much as you can to really build your confidence. You have really great vocals and a lot of potential so make sure to keep performing to try to be confident on stage so you don’t need the comfort of a lyric sheet.
