London Singing Competition - Under 16’s Feedback

Cameo - Always hard to open the show – great effort! We liked the image, you were confident and loved song choice. Keep on performing live - vocals thinned a little in low range and more mic experience would benefit. Keep the microphone close to your lips to maximize your projection. Click here with some tips on microphone techniques for singers. Creditable stage craft and overall communication.  Well done Cameo, one to watch!

Emily Jones - Pleasant vocal, good engagement with the audience. Perhaps give greater thought to image to be able to compete at this level. To make it as an artist you need to be identifiable. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. You need more time find your style and present with more confidence, I would be interested to see how you develop. Oh, and watch the ending!

Omar - Distinctive vocal style, I can see why you chose this song. Some dynamic shaping added character. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. There are a couple things you need to work on, for instance the guitar work did not match the vocal, and overall presence needs more assurance. Click here for some tips on playing guitar. Possibilities here, but further construction required. Keep at it Omar!

Magick - Technically very good, you were convincing in your style. Strong original too – well done here. There was much to like about this Magick. Clearly a performer, your image worked, and you used the stage well. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. You might need more of an edge, something which makes you stand out, to compete in your genre, but scored very well with some of the judges.

Tirion - Loved the interpretation – You really made this your own! Fantastic performance for such a young act. Click here for performing a creative cover as a singer. Lovely voice, well controlled across the ranges. Have a think about where you go from here, try out different styles, obtain more live experience.   Take your time - you are not in a rush to decide which genre and identity will suit you best.

Lois - You settled into this. Loved the attention to image, and well prepared body language which painted the words. (Be careful though this does not look too scripted). Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Expressive, well thought through song choices, effective contrast, and confidently delivered. Click here for the importance of song choices. There was much to like about this Lois. Excellent crowd participation! A stronger act from this age group.

Jaynie - All the preparation and training came together in this performance Jaynie - You nailed it vocally. There was an underlying tentativeness which did come through, and watch plosive consonants into the mic. Aim also for greater / wider engagement with the audience (‘one spot’ perspective throughout). Click here for the importance of audience engagement. This hot tip will give you some tops on engaging your audience better. Nicely controlled intervallic leaps and pleasant vibrato maintained musicality of sustained notes. Technically secure, now work on presentation and communication.

Mitchell - Courageous choice of song which required you to hold the audience at this dynamic range and tempo. Click here for the importance of song choices. You also needed to have musical awareness, and conviction in communication, and boy it did! I spent more time watching and listening to this than any other so far – great presence, which you sustained it to the end. Very good Mitchell – will be unlucky if you do not go through.

Tilly Seth - Enjoyed this! Vocally very strong in all ranges, and you sang with great individual colour. You need to now package this talent with more consideration to image and enhanced communication, more in line with your ability. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Doing this will make you become more of an artist. A strong act overall, needing work in places. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Come back next year!

London Singing Competition – Singer’s Feedback

Maisie - Great vocal presence. I can see a performer here at a young stage of her career. You need to know package together your chosen style with image, and work on live experience to increase stage craft. Try Open Mic nights for added live practice. Click here for Open Mic nights for singers. There were some interesting moments of individual expression – try to develop these. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Numerous positive aspects – Good luck Maisie!

Charlie - Loved the image, and general approach. You might be well advised to reconsider the backing band, great musicians though. You would benefit by being more current when presenting yourself and your ability. Click here for some tips on act image and synchronization. This would I am sure, enhance your chances commercially. You looked as though you were enjoying this, and it came through.

Ava - Liked the song choice and there is undoubtedly something there. Click here for the importance of song choices. I think there needs to be anther level of presentation, communication, vocal training and stage craft to compete with those looking for the area final, but you deserved your place in the regional. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Keep at it, and we will see you again!

Harmony - Split the judges. We loved the image and approach, but if I’m honest the performance did not really get going. The original was very nice (well done), but in addition to songwriting skills, consider a track which allows you more opportunity to showcase your vocal range, stagecraft, personalization and identity. Click here for tips on writing a song. Look at bringing a build up to the chorus, this will be more engaging.

Jessica - Great song choice Jessica, and you nailed the delivery! Comfortable and confident, you have bags of potential, and there is a degree of commercial awareness here already. You were technically strong, and highly communicative. Definitely a stronger act today, and would be unlucky not to go through. Click here for some tips on smashing your performance. Very good.

Arya - You are very strong in your chosen style, with an image to suit and vocal security to be proud of. The piece was also presented with colour and shape. Another very strong act in a unusually strong heat overall. Within your genre you need to find even greater degree of individuality, and an overall edge in addition to just ability. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician.

Aliyah - Magnificent keyboard opening context! Click here for some tips on performing with music keyboards. Highly musical and enjoyable. Great interpretation too…I was really hoping this would get going and showcase the extent of your ability - I feel there is more there, and it did not all come out today. Look at your vocal dynamics, this will help your performance be more engaging. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. You were also unlucky it was such a strong heat. On another day you would have made it though Aliyah. One to watch.

Lily - Strong vocal ability in this top half performance. You engaged well and sang with a real sense of conviction. There was scope for greater use of stage, and perhaps a more relaxed style. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Sometimes trying perhaps a little ‘too hard’ does detracts slightly, and I think this was the case here. Secure technically, give thought to overall presentation and communication style.

La’Shawnn - Great image, articulation, and sense of composure on stage. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. A lot of commercial potential, supported by effective vocal ability and control, I would be interested to see how you progress. Watch your ending. Click here for vocal exercises for singers, these will help you perform well till the very end. You did split the judges, but well done and good luck.

Lean - What a performance! My goodness. I only wish I had that confidence and ability at your age. Of course aspects of vocal technique need to develop, so keep up the training, but you have something that cannot be taught, i.e clear stage craft, presence and engagement in this astonishing performance. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. A real crowd pleaser!

Jeremiah - Loved this Jeremiah, relaxed, engaged and controlled with a natural sense of fluency. Technically strong, image might not work for some, but a clear sense of individuality and confident on stage. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. You sustained interest right through until the end, although the delivery did stop a little abruptly. Click here for vocal exercises for singers, these will help you perform well till the very end. Stands a realistic chance of going through, it will be tight.

Nicole - Really strong and unusual tone. Just a little pitchy at times. It is important that the audience connects more with you. Click here for the importance of audience engagement. Try to use your facial expressions to portray the emotions in the song. Click here for being able to sing with emotion. The delivery does need to be a little more assured, but that will come with experience. Lots of potential though – one to watch.

Shreya - Fantastic opening, captivating, distinctive vocal style and held the stage. Not every pitch was exact today, but you have something which I’m interested to see develop. Being honest, not the strongest act technically, but you were confident with good stage presence and the song choice was considered. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Well done.

London Singing Competition – 16-20’s Feedback

Von J’ai - You looked comfortable, engaged with the music and delivered with fair confidence. I’m not sure the song allowed you to showcase a sufficiently full range of your ability, and the intro was too long!. Click here for the importance of song choices. I’m all for setting the correct tone and musical context, but try to be quicker to the performance in the short time available. Watch suddenness of ending also! Good audience participation, by which time you had settled. Click here for some tips on audience participation. Promising overall, but needs further work.

Imogen - Secure performance, looked lovely, and held musical interest. You need to find an edge to realistically compete and move to the next level - was really hoping the delivery would take off! You need to greaten your vocal dynamics. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. Scope also for greater stagecraft and assurance. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. This all said, the delivery was confortable technically and yes, there is potential evident.

Georgia - This was a musical, nicely shaped vocal performance, with image suiting the style. Guitar work supported the vocal with a general fluency and the judges liked the original. Click here for some tips on playing guitar. Aim to place head voice with greater exactness, but generally comfortable and pleasant overall. This was a top half delivery.

Marnie - Good song choice and tempo to make an impact in a short performance, and you were confident to use the stage with body language aiding expression and colour in performance. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Communication was good. You need to think about how image aligns with genre – I did not see an obvious correlation here. Click here for some tips on act image and synchronization. This will help bring your originality to your performance.

Nadine - Great sense of timing relative to the backing, another comfortable vocal delivery, with a degree of personalization. The image needs work – scope for more identity and commercial awareness here. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Slightly pitchy unfortunately towards the end also, leading also to a question mark over intonation. Click here for vocal exercises for singers, these will help you perform well till the very end. First half was better today.

Morgan - You settled into this delivery and held the stage with some assurance. Overall though I felt you were holding back. Greater experience and confidence might give you an enhanced presence on stage, and also assist with communication. Click here for some tips on how to sing with confidence. On balance, a good attempt, but needs something extra to compete with those capable of making to the area final.

Zoe - Commendable acapella performance, with pulse mostly held and structure maintained. The absence of musical reference put pressure on some intervallic movement which affected confidence of delivery but you did well to project and present with a degree of conviction. Chorus was more assured. Would like to see you perform in your comfort zone to a backing. Click here for tips on using backing music.

Maria - Pleasant, in control of the performance, and vocally secure. Image suited the style and you steadied into a more expressive delivery as you progressed. The overall feel was in truth a little ‘karaoke’ which will place a ceiling on your commercial potential, but there is promise here. Try to view your work from a salability perspective to move up to the next level. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Split the judges….

London Singing Competition – Feedback for Singer’s

Monade - Love the image, and the cool backing singers! Really interesting performance, different and captivating. I am not sure it began well – really needed to study the its arrangements ad cohesion as you progressed. Click here for vocal exercises for singers, these will help you perform well from the very start. Obvious attention to glamour image, which contrasted quite effectively with backing vocals. My guess is you whilst you will attract a market, but brace yourself for the target being niche.

Cristen - This was by a distance the most distinctive performance in this second show so far. Attractive vocal tone, full of personality! In truth, I’m not sure the image worked, although I think I understand the understated approach. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. You still need to develop this to work more commercially. On balance though, definitely one to watch - you have something Cristen…

Melyssa - A real shame about the arrangement difficulties and continuity losses. Click here for the importance of sound testing – for singers. You look great, have a lovely vocal, and you did well to keep a smile and positive presence about you when it was clearly not going as you had hoped. This all said, there was enough there to be interested in you I part also because you handled it well! Take this is as an excellent experience and learn how it can be avoided next time.

Annie D - Very good vocal control, you gave attention to your image and delivered with a confidence. Aim for greater use of stage, and continue to develop your repertoire and sense of expression. Click here for stage performance tips for singers and for singing with facial expressions. Try also to find a stronger identity. A good performance overall from a stronger act in this heat.

Lily - There was a degree of assurance and attention to vocal detail which added welcome depth. Use of dynamics assisted, the song choice was effective and you looked good together. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. Continue trying to develop a commercial angle, plus develop your experience on stage, but another stronger act in this age group. Try Open Mic nights for added live practice. Click here for Open Mic nights for singers.

Jamie - Loved the interpretation and enjoyment you bring. A consistent performer! In truth, technically, not all pitching and placements were exact, and guitar tone was not up to the standard of your voice today. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. However, there is the usual promise here, with an individuality of vocal tone and colour. Wider areas for development on the day.

Maddy – We liked this. It was musical, competent, and had an element of personalization. You can clearly perform with a confidence, and I can see potential to move into a commercial market. Take advice as to stylistic direction and how to progress from here. Think also about your musical support – you might be better suited to contemporary piano? Or other supporting musicians? Click here for some tips on using a music instrumental.

Arkuen - Interesting vocal delivery, arrangement and style. There was a uniqueness which was refreshing, and for me you need to pursue this. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. I am not sure everyone will like what you do, but you are one of the few who have made an effort to break the mold! Definitely one I would like to see develop and progress.

Christina - There were many positive elements to this act, a crowd pleaser, great tempo, presence and musically secure. The song choice was effective also, with considered arrangements, the backing support worked, and as a package this was heading in the right direction. Click here for the importance of song choices. I have to say it did split the judges, but commercial potential there, with a sparkle!

Akusia - Pleasant, comfortable and well presented. The vocal performance was fine, you now need to develop this into a more audience-focused delivery, with presence and full engagement. Click here for the importance of audience engagement. Give thought also as to how the image relates to your style and identity. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Overall, you deserved your place in the regionals, now give thought as to how you can achieve a commercial edge and move to the next level.

Amy - Sultry! Clearly a performer, great low range vocally, good song choice and I liked the image. You have a distinctive delivery style – although try to ensure this is controlled - but you are clearly a stronger act, and need to showcase to a wider audience. Click here for vocal exercises for singers, these will help you control your vocals. If you make it to the area finals, I would be interested to see how you compete against the more serious acts across the country.

Cyreez - Musically advanced, confident, and great presence. The layering of tracks is not in itself new, but the approach worked for you, and the alignment with the song idea to ‘find your own’. You need to develop your vocal strength and presence, and you will need a wider repertoire, but a clever, personalized, act. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Musically and individually, you will be unlucky if you do not get through.

Mia - This was a comfortable and pleasant delivery Mia. You can clearly perform and have vocal security technically but try to develop individuality and in terms of individual expression.  Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. There is scope to perform at a higher level, although this first requires you to develop sufficient confidence to fill the stage with presence and assurance. Click here for some tips on how to sing with confidence

London Singing Competition – 21 and Over’s Feedback

Corine Kwami - Smooth, great song choice, immediate impact…. Just we needed to start the show! Clear stage presence and personality shining through. There was scope for greater use of stage and engagement but a strong opening to the show. Click here for stage performance tips for singers and audience engagement. Well considered and comfortably performed.

Ariane Barnes - Really cool guitar and bass backing. Serious presence oozing from the back of the stage! Not sure the image aligned with the identity you were trying to achieve but musical and neat arrangements, individual in presentation and scored well across the judges. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician and for some tips on using a music instrumental. Well done!

Harry Smith - A less serious act, but your technical shortfalls were made up for in entertainment! You need to decide what you want to do from here, which direction to take, and whether realistically there is substance, but on today’s performance, the judges liked it! If your serious about singing, it would be beneficial to see a singing teacher. They will be able to extend your singing ability. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. You’re a crowd pleaser too. Enjoy your moment in the area finals – try to emulate the energy and fun to go down well.

Rudi - Atmospheric, held tempo and musical interest. There was an underlying tentativeness, and scope for more presence and stylistic direction, but a good attempt overall. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. You deserved your place in the regional final and presented it favorably. Good luck from here - we would like to see how you develop.

Chie - Really great original track, fresh, interesting, effective percussive motifs. Could see this being developed into something current and commercial. Give thought now as to how you present it. For instance your image needs to marry more closely with what you are trying to achieve. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. I liked the approach to remain seated, it added something. Top half act today.

Ze-Lunjo - Liked the image, and you delivered with considered preparation. Watch intonation and pitch accuracy generally, plus there was scope for greater dynamic range and shaping. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. Try also to build on the confident opening with greater technical support and stagecraft. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Tasteful original. On balance, you looked good, now focus on the work required to move forward to the next level.

BethanWynMusic - For me, a lovely act, nice vocal, warm tone, looked confortable on stage. Nice use of rhythms in melody and confident guitar work. The moments of intensification were also effective. Whilst I liked the original (nice track), I really wanted this to take off! Try to incorporate vocal dynamics to really drive the hook in the song. Click here for the importance of vocal dynamics. Overall, there was a substance there, and good engagement also, scoring well with some of the judges.

Francis - Emotional delivery, clearly heartfelt – nicely portrayed and communicated. Click here for being able to sing with emotion. I like the looks, and can see this developing into something more marketable. Watch timing of leading notes, and scope for greater presence overall, but you have something. Would like to see a wider repertoire.

Suzanne - Committed, expressive, clear vocal ability and confidence / experience in performance. Personality in abundance and technically controlled. You need to decide on your stylistic direction, and give thought to how you package this with repertoire and image. Click here for some tips on act image and synchronization. Take advice as to how you might be able to best do this.

Daniel - Distinctive performance from a distinctive performer. Good consideration to image too! The original suited your personality and approach and you have something to build on, both in terms of originality and commercially. Suggest you want to keep on writing and performing then come back so we can see your development. Click here for tips on writing a song.

London Singing Competition – Singing Feedback

Scarhop - Your act is for the very most part well very constructed - you are good at what you do. Strong image and this was a clearly prepared and considered delivery. Fab original and you work well together. It is fair to say though have a think about the relentless seriousness and intensity. I know this is important, but give thought as to how you can introduce some softening to allow your personality to come through more. Click here for being able to sing with emotion.

Ami - Nicely contrasted elements to this delivery, clever moment of narration, with interest sustained. Technical security underpinned the performance, and there was creditable personalization. Your marks were affected by song choice (which would benefit from further thought) and stage craft (which could be more fully utilized for better presence), but you did well today. Click here for the importance of song choices and stage performance tips for singers.

Andrea - Comfortably confident, with neat transitions and continuity. Fluent and lovely movement through the break also. Song choice was effective, good attention to image with connection achieved with the audience. Click here for the importance of song choices. I also liked the controlled and consistent movement to head voice which added colour. You deserved your place in the regionals today and will be unlucky not to go through.

Daragh - Didn’t know what to expect but we were not disappointed! Creditable presence which held interest commendably and in the main you achieved what you set out to achieve. There is room for greater training and support, plus watch plosive consonants into the mic – a bit loose technically (this accumulated to the point where it did detract), but many positives evident. Click here with some tips on microphone techniques for singers. Keep going….

MeME - Great image, confident in presentation and you clearly belonged in the regional final. In truth, the performance needed to settle, but overall delivery, choice of song and interpretation was fine. We need to see a connection to the song, bring some emotion. Click here for being able to sing with emotion. To move to the next level, the approach needs more edge to make you more distinctive but there is potential here.

Amie Fuller - An interesting performance, secure, engaging and overall portrayal of mood was effective. You clearly put thought into preparation, with the image working for you and the delivery was considered. It is fair to say the judges thought there was more to you than the song choice permitted, but good performance. Click here for the importance of song choices.

Drew - Unique sound and style, which I am quite sure could have a niche market! It might be worth be rethinking your identity and what you are trying to achieve. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Greater technical security would also assist, but stylistically you have something there. Split the judges.

Monika - There were many positive aspects to this delivery, although there was also a degree of ‘karaoke’ which to move to the next level needs to be developed into a greater sense of commercial presence and possibility. These minor tweaks can be ironed up with help from a singing teacher. Click here for choosing the right singing teacher. Some technical slips also need to be repaired. Overall however, a pleasant, committed performance.

Lady Dreamer - Once settled, this was an impressive performance and quite unexpected! You need to give attention to image, stagecraft and audience engagement, but you delivered well and achieved strong marks from some judges. Click here for stage performance tips for singers and audience engagement. Think about how you present your work as a package to achieve success in your chosen style.

Cindy - What an opening! Immediately impacting – really liked the voice! Great song choice to capitalize on this, and you have the technical ability to support a marketable vocal tone. With work on your image and more thought as to identity and direction, you have something Cindy. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Would love to see you again.
