Manchester Talent Competition - Under 16’s Feedback

Megan Harrington – Vocally you have good potential. Performance wise, you need to show more emotion through facial expressions and eye contact to really engage with your audience. You need to bring more variation to your expression, click here for more on singing with facial expressions. You need to learn to control those nerves and have confidence in your own ability. We could hear those nerves to start with; click here for more on dealing with nerves.

Aditi – Cannot believe you are 6 years old! You are a little star in the making. You have a lot of potential! You missed a few notes and your timing was off slightly, but working with a good vocal coach would help you with your breathing and projection and would be very beneficial for you. Nikki Stewart – Such a mature and amazing voice. You have a beautiful vocal range. Nice keyboard work, but make sure you look up and don’t keep looking down at your playing, be confident in your own ability. Click here for more on playing with music keyboards. Joslyn – Cannot believe an eight year old has such a mature powerful voice. Your delivery was great you really performed those words. Going forward you need to work on your breathing and control, click here for more on breathing exercises for singing. Having some lessons with a vocal coach would really benefit you. Tash Gandy – Some gorgeous tones developing here but you need to watch your vocal control in your lower range as it is a little weaker. It would be good for you work with a vocal coach on breathing, projection and control to make you even better. Click here for advice on singing teachers - picking the right teacher. You have lots of potential you just need to be more confident and enjoy yourself. 

Lauren Glynn – Good projection and control on the larger notes. However now you need to work on your overall tone with a good vocal coach to make you even better. Not sure the song choice was right for you, you need to make sure your song choice really showcases your voice, click here for more on the importance of song choice. 

Manchester Talent Competition – Judges’ Feedback  

Distinct – Great performance, you sung some nice harmonies. Loved the dance routine, just sorry about the lighting issue. However, you need to work on your vocal projection and act synchronisation, Click here for more on how to achieve better vocal projection. The more you perform and work together the better you will become as an act, click here for more on act image and synchronisation.

Ella Cowley – Vocally you are very good, just try not to mess around with your hair when you are nervous as that is quite distracting. the more you perform the more your stage confidence will develop. You have great vocal control, but you need to move around the stage more and really perform the song, click here for more on click here for more on stage performance

Zazamunda – Good image and vocal tone. Loved the smooth switch from rapping to singing, it was very slick.  However going forward, you need to work on your breathing control, click here for more on breathing exercises for singing. It was very creative; maybe pull back a little on the rapping as it sounded a little shouty at times. Would love to hear you sing more as you have real vocal potential. 

Alicia Pollard – You have a very sweet tone. Though it sounded a little nasel up at the top of your range. A good vocal coach will help you develop your sound and tone to be even better. Be careful with your microphone technique, if you had held the microphone closer to your mouth the sound would have projected better. Click here for advice on microphone technique for singers.

Liz Shaw – It vocally very good in areas but song choice is vital for a good performance. You need to choose a song that really showcases your vocals. Click here for more on the importance of song choice. The song may have been a little low for you, at times you sounded a little flat. You need to work on your breath control to really engage your vocals fully. Click here for more on breathing exercises for singers. Maybe work on your vocals first to make them even better as there is potential and then add in the guitar. 

Isaac Kennedy – Nice guitar. The original is a well written track, it has a lovely melody and the words are very heartfelt. But try work on the tempo of the track. Going forward, try and work on your performance and really try to engage your audience through eye contact and facial expressions. Megan – You have a great country sound. But vocally you need to work on the longer notes as they lack strength and vibrato. A good vocal coach will be able to work with you to improve this, it would be very beneficial for you. Click here for advice on singing teachers - picking the right teacher. However you have great vocal projection and your song was very catchy. It is a good original country style song.

Ellie Lightfoot – Nice control, you have a lovely natural vibrato. What a voice, you have great stage presence. You have good projection and vocal control. But maybe the song choice was a little old fashioned for you, something more current would be better for you. Click here for more on the importance of song choice

Jake – Great projection and a nice vocal tone. There is so much potential for the future for you. But you need to watch your diction at times as we couldn’t hear all the lyrics. Click here for more on diction for singers.  Nevertheless you are very talented for your age. Performance wise, try and engage more with your audience through eye contact and facial expressions, click here for more on stage performance. Cool shoes! 

Iona Paul – Such a powerful voice, however the song choice did not showcase your full potential. You have a very strong upper range, would love to hear a song that showcases this, click here for more on the importance of song choice. You have great confidence and audience engagement. Manchester Talent Competition - Feedback 

Laura Thomas – Nice original vocal tone and a good range. But you need to work on your diction, it was hard understand the lyrics in places. Click here for more on diction for singers. Going forward, you need to work on your vibrato and developing your higher range. At the moment your voice is getting a little caught at the back of your throat, so you need to do breathing and diaphragm exercises to help with this. Cal Richards – A confident performance, you used the stage well and you have a great image. Vocals were a little nasal to begin with, it might have been nerves. You have a really nice tone but it needs work. It would be very beneficial for you to work with a good vocal coach on your breathing and projection to make you even better. Annalise and Jayda – Your voices complement each other beautifully. Your harmonies and arrangement work well together. Going forward, look to work on developing your vocal projection and range to be even better, click here for more on how to achieve better vocal projection. Laura – Awesome dance routine, you clearly put a lot of thought into your performance. However you must put your vocals first as you sounded a little flat. The song choice was a little too low for you. You must choose a song that showcases your vocals, click here for more on the importance of song choice. Performance wise, it just didn’t really build enough. You need to bring in some dynamics to your performance. Click here for more on singing dynamics. Try reworking the song for your own vocals. 

Tom McGrath – A confident performance, you have an excellent range and great vocal projection. However it was a poor song choice, you need to choose a song that really showcases your vocal ability; the song was too high for you. Click here for more on the importance of song choice. You have a gorgeous tone to your voice but you need to show this off. 

Sara Crompton – Lovely quality and sincerity in your performance, the song suited you perfectly. Maybe try mixing it up a bit now to show off your vocals. Click here for more on the importance of song choice. It was a great original cover, but moving forward try to take more of a risk. Nice work from your guitarist

Victoria Chesterton – You have a nice tone, a little breathy and sometimes flat though. Click here for more on breathing exercises for singers, these will help you to improve your breathing. Good confidence and performance, the song suited you well. Nice projection, very engaging. 

Illunis – A very engaging performance. An amazing take on the song, you have very haunting vocals. However going forward, you need to try and enhance your top range and vocal projection. Manchester Talent Competition – Judges’ Feedback  

Gabriella Zuccotti – You have a good stage presence, but you chose a very big song which is very difficult to sing. The song was a too big for you. Next time, you need to choose a song which really showcases your vocals. REMENISSION – Good stage movement but more work is needed on the vocals. As act you need to perform more together, there were some good harmonies and there is real potential. You need to develop you act image and work on your tone and projection. Serena Gilchrist – The original song is great but it isn’t right for you. The vocals were great but it just didn’t show off your full potential. Just take care with your diction, click here for more on diction for singers. Also look to develop an image, image is very important, click here for information on finding an image as a musician.

Demi – A very confident performance. You have a lovely natural vibrato, you really showed lots of emotion in your performance and the delivery was strong. Going forward, there is room for improvement in your range. You need to look to develop your range with a good vocal coach. Click here for advice on singing teachers - picking the right teacher.

Steph Ball – Loved your style and confidence, you really looked at home on that stage. You have a great rasp and a lovely tone and quality to your vocal. The emotion really came through in your performance. Click here for more on stage performance.

FAITH – You worked well together and put real originality into the song. You both have a strong vocal ability. And the harmonies were good but they could have been pushed even more. Going forward, look to add even more to your performance to really sell the song to the audience through your emotion and expressions. Click here for more on act image and synchronisation

Haydyn Biddle – You have a nice rasp to your vocals and a great tone. It was a good song choice, but watch the timing and the speed as you were out of time in places. Performance wise, really try and give a bit extra in terms of emotion and facial expressions. You need to bring more variation to your expression, click here for more on singing with facial expressions. Great audience engagement though, you have lots of potential. 

Manchester Talent Competition - Feedback 

Brian Jnr – You had lots of energy, however you need to try and not imitate the artist and really try and make it your own. Click here for more on performing a creative cover. Also you need to work on your image, as image is very important for an artist, click here for information on finding an image as a musician. You have a nice natural vibrato and have great stage presence, so now just work on finding your own voice.  

Cat Ogden – It was a great performance. You have a nice vibrato and a good chest belt. Could definitely see you on West End. However as an artist you need to be more individual and not act as a character. You need to be yourself, not the artist you are covering, click here for more on performing a creative cover. It was a committed performance, but it needed more originality. 

Jordan – You have great vocal projection and have some really great qualities in your tone. Going forward, you need to work on your lower range and really strengthen it. You have a great image, now try and work the stage more.

Dario – You have a nice rasp to your vocal. We really enjoyed the arrangement but it needs more range. Good vocal projection but you must make eye contact with your audience to really engage and connect them to your performance. You kept looking down instead. Brogan Lacey – You have a great vocal range and a really lovely tone to your vocal. Song choice wise it really showcased your high range, however the song is overdone so would love here something slightly different from you. Click here for more on the importance of song choice. You have a fabulous voice, so you definitely could have attempted something more challenging. Take more of a risk next time and really try to make the song your own. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.

Mark Ryan – A nice arrangement with some good lyrics. Vocally, you sounded a little weak in your top range so be care of this. Also try not to sound American at times. Going forward,  you need to work on the structure within the song, click here for advice on writing a song. You have a great image. 

Nicola Jayne – You have a very sweet voice, it was very entrancing. Performance wise it lacked emotion, you were too robotic. You really need to try and engage you audience through facial expressions, eye contact and emotion. Click here for more on audience engagement.

Sophia Maria – Loved the thought you put into the image, it was great. You have very strong vocals. However at times be careful not to sound shouty. Look to work on developing your projection and range to be even better. Click here for more on how to achieve better vocal projection.  It was a confident performance. 

Rob King – You have a gorgeous vibrato and some really rich tones to your vocal. You really meant every word, it was a great performance. Going forward, look to work on your image, image is very important, click here for information on finding an image as a musician

Sophia – You have a beautiful voice, it was very soothing. However your vocal sounded a little nasal at times. So you need to look towards improving your breathing control and stamina as you had a few breathing issues towards the end. Click here for more on breathing exercises for singing.
