Under 16's Feedback – Midlands Music Contest

Liv – Fantastic dress to really make you stand out! Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Song choice was a bit limited as with any west end number you are playing a part and acting rather than being original, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. Good range, it was nice and controlled, you just need to relax a bit more. Enjoyed the different tones.  Good expression look to commit even more to the passion within the song as it has bags of emotional energy to do that. Don’t forget to embrace the optimism within the song and not just the pain and anguish.

Alani – Playing over the backing track didn’t add anything to it musically and as you didn’t reach out to each other, it didn’t add anything visually either. Song choice was good, and you committed well to the emotion within the song. Would consider taking the microphone off the stand and working the stage to add to the performance - click here for stage performance tips for singers. Confident and controlled performance. Your expression grew throughout the performance. You have a nice unique tone and enjoyed the original song. Had a nice tone and phrasing.

Amelie – You have all the potential but remember you don’t have to over commit the emotion and expression – try to rein it in a little as it’s coming across a little forced at the moment. Click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Changing and varying the dynamics will also keep the interest going to the end.  Great confident performance with nice falsetto. Big strong voice. Good control and stage presence. You have a lovely sound!

Eva Rose – We know you are super talented, not too sure you need to wear the face mask or what it stands for - although it is important to have something distinct to stand out on stage. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Also, you don’t have to over labour the introduction on stage, try to keep it short and punchy, but it was nice to have one. Lovely voice and song. Really liked the chorus.  Confident stage presence and it looked like you were relaxed and enjoying yourself.

Faith-Lyn – Good song choice, look to make it more of your own to show us your originality, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. As a performer look to commit even more to the performance on stage. More dynamics and variation will help the performance shine more - click here for tips on vocal dynamics. Liked your performance and use of the microphone. Looked slightly nervous and lost some direction in the middle, but a good finish!

Nezza – You sounded sweet and had us captivated us from the start. Beautiful vocals. Liked that you played with one hand and used the other to express the emotion in the song.  Couple of minor tips, give us more eye contact - click here for more on the importance of eye contact and connecting with your audience. Also look to get closer to the microphone and make sure you are consistently close to it. Song has huge potential, just needs a little work on making that chorus slightly stronger; you have a hit on your hands! The song was nice and emotive. Really like the performance as it had good delivery.

Annissa La Touche – Lots of potential, which you demonstrated more as the song went on, however it needed you to commit right from the start to give more of a first impression. Look to get closer to the microphone and make sure you are consistently close to it. Click here for more tips on microphone technique. Also take care with your diction and clarity of your vocal. Consider your song choice a bit more. You have a great personality on stage and a nice tone to your voice.

Mischa – Great to hear an original song, look to punch that chorus out even more and make the lyrics really resistant with your audience, click here for more on writing that killer song chorus line as a singer. We wanted to join in with you! Click here for more on guitar dynamics.  Also consider standing when you perform as that will give you more movement to your performance.  You have a nice voice and tone. Enjoyable composition.

Eddie Adkins – You started and were too often drifting off key, you needed more punch in your delivery - click here for tips on finding the right singing teacher for you (they will be able to work on this with you). Good creativity with mashing these songs together, click here for more song mashups. This made the performance interesting. More performing will hopefully develop your stage presence. You have a unique voice and clearly put effort into your performance.

Kezia – You have a booming vocal, you are however missing a trick by not using your eyes to perform and convey the emotion in the song. Click here for tips on eye contact. You are working the stage well, but look to give it even more purpose in your performance in terms of conveying the emotion, try using more eye contact for this. Click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Liked your confidence. Really liked your vocal range and confidence, would make for a good recording voice.

Mollie – Liked that you stood to perform to give you the opportunity for more movement. The song and performance needed more dynamics, look to vary them and let the song breathe, this will create more impact in the hook of the song. Click here for more on adding guitar dynamics as a guitarist. Song has potential but needs more chord changes and a catchier hook. Try not to riff on every note, but you have a great voice with nice phrasing.

Lisa Marie – A really committed performance, however at times it ran away from you and you ran out of steam. Just need to work on the control a little more, although you do have powerful vocals with a great vocal range! Well done for seeing the song through. Lots of passion and energy and with that passion look to channel that to be even better. Click here for the importance of song choices

Mitzi – Lots of good ideas in this song, more performance will improve your delivery and stagecraft - click here for the benefits of Open Mic nights for singers to develop these areas. Also click here for stage performance tips for singers. You had an interesting composition and a beautiful voice. Love the breaks in your voice. Really like your tone too.

Lottie – At this stage want and see a little more from – you have a super vocal but we need to see something else. Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer and also look to give us more eye contact to reach out more with your eyes to connect with the audience. Try and relax more to achieve this. Controlled vocals and sung with feeling. You have a good vocal range.

Luke The Drifter – Take care when performing with a loop pedal acting as a backing track as you need to ensure it’s on point otherwise your playing can clash with the music and not give the desired effect you are looking for. Performance wise, vary the dynamics more and be more animated with conveying the message of the song, click here for tips on vocal dynamics. The performance remained too much on one level and could have been so much better by varying the dynamics! You did have a catchy song. Lovely voice and tone.

Mia – Super vocal and you sustained the notes beautifully however at this stage we want to see a little more. Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer, you did change it, but we needed more creativity! Look to give us more eye contact to be more engaging. Use your hands and all the tools at your disposal to convey the emotion of the song. Also vary the dynamics even more, click here for more on singing and vocal dynamics. Try and allow the song to build by starting subtler.

Anna Kelly – Good choice standing, as it gives you more opportunity for movement. Look to get closer to that microphone as you lost a lot of projection and clarity as a result. Your original has a lot of potential and a nice finish. Unique voice with a great range and control, just try and focus on your breathing a little more to improve further. Click here for breath control exercises for singers. Guitar was very complimentary to the performance.

Avygayle – Bags of potential; you sound great and you have a quirky look! Take care to convey the emotion of the song in your expression, you aren’t really conveying the narrative of the song. Also look to get the vocal hook out early, look to re structure to give impact and the hook early along with greater dynamic depth. Enjoyed the different textures to your voice. You have a nice tone and phrasing to your voice, just need a little more diction. Add some more eye contact with the audience. Click here for tips on eye contact.

Now is the time to move to write your own songs, click here for tips on how to write songs. Nice vocals, try and use falsetto a little more. Loved your emotion in your performance. Some slight nerves may have kicked in, but you have great potential vocally and put in effort. Click here for tips on how to calm nerves

Commit even more to conveying the emotion in the song, click here for tips on how to sing with emotion. Loved that you ended with a smile! Really enjoyed your performance. You have a strong vocal. Keep it up.

Trinity – It was quite a nervy performance, with more performance you will be able to deal and cope with the nerves, click here for tips on how to calm nerves. Look to perform a creative cover rather than a cover to similar to the original. Click here for tips on performing a creative cover as a singer. Nice rich low register. You have a lovely voice, but maybe consider your song choice as a little low in some places. Try to relax more, as sometimes trying too much can affect your tuning, but you have good potential!

Breiya May – This song is very polished, just needs more of a punch to the vocal hook - consider a slight reworking of the words. Click here for more advice on how to write songs. Great vocal tone and really enjoyed the song. Great diction and a big confident performance. Also had a great image. Liked the unusual composition.

16-20’s Feedback – Midlands Music Contest

Kailia – Good to see you committed emotionally to the delivery of the song. You need to find your own sound and originality and make the song your own, click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. Now is the time to move to write your own songs, click here for tips on how to write songs. Sloppy ending to the performance, remember to perform till the end. Nice voice with a good lower register. Your voice is very powerful. Liked your style. Just build a little more on the control of the riffs.

Lewis Smith – Look to reach out with your eyes and connect more with your eyes. Just varying the dynamics even more will really emphasis the hook and chorus line. The song and performance needed more dynamics, look to vary them and let the song breathe to come back with more impact with the hooks, click here for more on adding guitar dynamics as a guitarist. Song has potential but needs more chord changes and a catchier hook. The guitar and vocals compliment each other. Was an interesting performance.  Great voice, tone and control. Liked the original song.

Laura Hayes – Look to use the stage more, it was a very static performance, click here for stage performance tips for singers. Look to work the dynamics more to emphasis the hook and chorus. Try to relax more to really show off your vocal range even more. Move around a little more on stage to enhance your presence. Really emoted to the lyrics though which was good. Good vocal range.

Lyd Read – Song is a cool one and you have good presence on stage. Good expression and acting out the emotion of the song. Click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Commit a little more to the chorus to drive through the hook. Song has lots of potential and is really easy on the ear. You have beautiful sounding vocals that sound quite mystical. This added a nice sense of emotion to the song as well. Think you could also show a lot more potential by using some more melodies.

Olivia Flemming-Smith – You have a pure vocal, look to use the stage, come to the front and connect more to your audience. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Give us even more commitment to the emotion and passion in the song. Good to see you interpret a pop song classically – we liked that you made the song your own. Liked the classical tone to the modern song.  Brilliant range just watch your pitch in some parts to improve further.

Lauren Rebecca – You have a lovely vocal, but your posture is all crunched up and you need to perform in the instrumental section. Embrace the optimism and positivity in the song - the song has this, but you aren’t portraying it. Click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Brilliant vocals with lovely harmonies. Really good control. Well rounded vocals which led to a beautiful performance. Love the different textures. Work on a stronger melody and hook, but really enjoyed the lyrics.

Ryan Sparrow – Your unique style of playing is cool and you back it up with a confident vocal, however your style does limit your interaction and engagement with your audience. Click here for the importance of eye contact. Consider switching playing styles throughout the performance. Love the use of the guitar. Only downside to this was lack of eye contact. You have a nice vocal! Great combination between song and the guitar.

Molly & Taylor – You guys need to engage with each other. Song choice wasn’t very inspiring although you built it up nicely towards the end. Click here for the importance of song choices. Click here for more advice on a guitar loop pedal performance. Unusual but good with a powerful voice and liked the guitar backing. Molly in particular has a lovely deep voice. Like that you got into it.

Gracy May – Nice song choice, would have been even better slowed down even more. You need to use your eyes and reach out to your audience, click here for the importance of eye contact. Also consider embracing the optimism and positivity of the song, your expression shows us that you are in pain throughout? Interesting arrangement. Enjoyed this version of the song. Try and breathe a bit more on the bigger notes. Try and also embrace the stage a bit more to add to the performance.

AXJ – Slow start and poor interaction between performers. You have the right idea and nice blend between rapping and a silky vocal. Visually and performance wise, it was lazy and sloppy. Lots of potential but a poor execution! Diction needs some work. Click here for tips on how to improve diction. Really liked the rapping and makes for an interesting combination. Singer had a good range. Try to work as the performance more as a whole to bring it together.

Grace – Lots of potential, but you need to perform as much as you can to develop your stage craft and presence. Click here for more on the importance of Open Mic nights for singers and how they can aid your development. Controlled confident vocals with an interesting arrangement. Enjoyed the song with the delivery of the lyrics. Nice quirky vocal.

Keeslee Lanfear – Today’s performance required more purpose to your stage performance, it didn’t feel such a committed performance as your regional final. Would have benefitted from more dynamics to vary the delivery and keep the interest going throughout. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. Nice voice but you’re not showing us your passion. Consider a more acoustic strong to strip back the vocals to let them shine more. Use this to strengthen your voice.

Lacy Taylor – You connected well to the song and you were committed to conveying the emotion in the song. Just varying the dynamics even more will really emphasis the hook and chorus line. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. The song is polished, just needs more of a punch to the vocal hook, perhaps a slight reworking of the words would benefit. Click here for tips on writing that killer song chorus. Work on a stronger melody and hook. Liked your falsetto, would use this more. Some nice notes with a great range. Try not to race through and take your time with the song.

Ritu – Song is catchy and has potential, is it however written in the best key to show off your vocal at times your voice was breaking and seemingly straining to deliver as the song grew in demand. Click here for more tips on how to write songs. Controlled vocals with great range. Try to vary the melody and switch it up the rhythm so the words don’t run into each other. Some variation will keep the song interesting and catchy. You do have a nice voice.

Darshae – Song is good and like the sentiment. Try and get your expression more on point you are conveying the narrative of the story, however you have constant pain and anguish on your face. Click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Nice vocals. Try and use the stage a bit more. Lovely falsetto. Good wide range of vocals. Has lots of potential.

Amelia Benoit – Nice idea and did get better as the performance went on, however not totally sure it suited your vocal and your sweeter tones. Performance wise, look to commit even more and show us your passion. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Nice voice but we wanted you to let go a bit more. Big song choice, a song like this really has to come from the gut.

Ollie Wild – Cool vibe and the song is nice on the ear! Sang with real emotion which kept attention of the audience. Really great voice and loved the song. Chord sequence was good! Loved the originality that you bought to your performance.

21 and Over’s – Midlands Music Contest

Bryn Teeling – Good commitment, very oasis esque! Have you thought about doing an Oasis tribute band? There’s lots of demand for tribute bands and building that up to also include your own material so you make performance money from the gigs in addition. Click here for tips on how to write songs. We liked the melody in the chorus, you have a confident vocal.

S-FIN – Liked the blue lipstick, which made you stand out! click here for the tips on finding an image as a musician. Some of the moves and adlibs are a little cliché’ try and come up with some of your own original ones. Commit even more to the performance with more snappy moves. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. You're a confident performer however, you can rap better then you can sing. Work on your vocals to better your over all performance.

Declan Bartlett – Your song has amazing lyrics, has a real Damien Rice flavour going on.  You have a very enchanting vocal. Focus just a little more on delivering the chorus and you have a hit on your hands.

Susanna – Song has potential, very European pop. The performance was a little crazy and perhaps with more stage performance you can iron out the fringes of the extremes. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Vocally try not to push the vocal and loose control.

Nikki Petherick – Beautiful playing on keys and the musicality was fantastic. As performers try and reach out to each other as you very much performing individually; just a glance, a knowing look or smile which you only did right at the end. Click here for tips for music duos and groups. The song has lots of potential and nice on the ear. Stunning arrangement!

Jus Mike – We enjoyed your honest performance. This song has appeal and is very relatable, just needs more of a punch to the vocal hook, perhaps a slight reworking of the words would benefit. Click here for more advice on writing a song chorus, as reworking it a little could certainly make it flow even better. Get to as many open mic nights as you can to develop your stagecraft and delivery, click here for the importance of Open Mic nights for singers. Your vocals feel vulnerable which suited the honesty.

Carlton Makaza – Start needs more of an edge, it wasn’t well thought through and lacked impact. Performance on stage needs more presence, your movements lack confidence; make yourself bigger and more pronounced. Click here for stage performance tips for singers. Changing the dynamics to be more varied would have kept the interest till the end as the song has potential. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. Sloppy end to the performance!

Little John – Be conscious of your facial expressions, as they’re coming across very harsh and perhaps not conveying the narrative and message of the song. Look to exaggerate the expression, click here for tips on singing with facial expressions. Also look to extend the range of dynamics, click here for more adding guitar dynamics. You're very original, and had great stage presence. There are some Noel Gallagher traits in your performance!

Vocally not as tight as your regional final, at times you were losing your focus and tuning.  Great entertainment and you always look to get the audience on stage. Click here for tips on audience participation. Very impressive kicks in those heels!

Nephspirit – 100% better than your Bristol performance, nice carnival, and dance hall vibe. Playing was much tighter. Look to get that mic closer to your mouth and look up more up to engage with your audience. Click here for tips on microphone technique and eye contact. We liked your version of the song, you have a good vocal!

Evie Rowlands – Song has a lot of potential but as a performer you looked a little tense, click here for tips on how to calm nerves. The more you can get out there and perform the better, click here for the importance of Open Mic nights for singers. Try testing out new material along with perfecting your stage presence. Look to smile more as you have a lovely smile! Try not to look down too much at your guitar, we need more eye contact to be engaged to your performance. You have a great tone.

Loose-Change – Song has a lot of potential, perhaps need to make more of the shots with an ab-lib or two; shots, shots, shots! Take care coming off the stage a you go out of the range of stage lights and into the shadows. Song wise try and stick to the strength of the hooks and lyrics rather than going off point. Click here for tips on how to write songs. You're very original and we loved your confidence. We could hear every lyric!

Jack Humphries – We liked that you did a creative cover but better still to do one of your own songs! Click here for tips on how to write songs. Look to reach out with your eyes to grab your audience. Click here for tips on eye contact. Vocally you have a lovely tone, you did seem to lose your way with it a bit and it was certainly nice without being too WOW!

Xiomara Crystal – You have a super rich vocal and you really connected us to the song, however we need to see you as an artist so always look be creative and original with a cover. Felt like your performing as one! Click here for tips for music duos and groups. Super harmonies and interaction between you for an overall enjoyable performance.

Carl Fisher – Well done Carl, you have nice tone but you do need to watch your breathing to keep the vocals on point. Performance wise, you’re always committed but not always conveying the emotion from the narrative of the song. Click here for tips on how to sing with emotion. Good song choice which suited your vocal and you got the crowd going! You're a great guy!
