Birmingham Music Competition Feedback

Courtney Holland – Good connection to the music, when expressing the emotion just give more eye contact, don’t shut them for too long a period of time, click here for more on why eye contact is important.. Also with your expression make sure it changes to the appropriate emotion portrayed in the lyrics. You could also look to develop your hand movement and body language to use them more to further express the emotion of the song.

Nikki Powell – You have a good rasp and a distinct vocal, almost pitch perfect, well done. Confident performance but, don’t be frightened to commit even more to the song and use that stage more.  Click here for tips on performing on stage for singers.

Jasmine Skye – The piano backing gave it a nice live feel. As performers try and reach out to each other with a glance or stare to show a connection between yourselves  as well as the audience. Click her for tips for music duos and groups. Great vocal control, tone, depth and resonance.

Felicity Cox – Good expression and connection to the song. Classy styling, fabulous smooth, soulful voice. Remember to smile during your performance, let the audience know you’re enjoying yourself. Click here for more tips on singing with facial expressions.

Luigina – The song has the opportunity for movement and you were a bit too static. Vocally look to keep your focus and concentrate on remaining in time and tune, click here for more on advice on staying focused and remembering the words.

Kirby – Performance was on a different level to her peers today. Click here for more tips on singing with facial expressions which were spot on and the song choice was double spot on. When you needed that big projection towards the end it was a little lacking, click here for more tips how to achieve better vocal projection. Great confidence and attitude on stage.

Kellimarie – Lovely sentiment to the song and you varied the delivery well to drive through the message. Also look to vary the expression to the same degree to be even better. Nice variation of melodies, good interaction skills and great songwriting.

Mea–Ellease – Look to use that stage more wisely, you hung back quite a bit at the back and look to give the performance more purpose. Song wise try and make the song more your own click here for more on making a song your own. Great vocal control and dynamics.

Shanice Forster – Definitely the right way to go with originals but try and structure the lyrics more especially in the verses.  Click here for more on song sctructures for singers. Great stage performance and a unique voice with a great range.

NEC Birmingham Music Competition Feedback

Matilda Pratt – Great tone but at times the song choice proved to be too big for you, click here for the importance of song choices.. Loved your movement and the way you worked the stage, a very natural and confident performance.

Jennifer Brown – You can feel you have great power in the vocal and with development you could certainly turn this talent into a career. click here for more on performing a creative cover. A very confident, polished performance and great audience interaction.

Sofi Robinson – As performers, try and reach out to each other with a glance and look to show a connection as performers. Expression wise you are conveying a lot of pain rather than embracing the lighter optimism of the track, click here for more tips on singing with facial expressions

Kimberley – You connected well with the song emotionally but not convinced the song suited your vocal range it didn’t demonstrate the sweeter tones in your range. Click here for more on the importance of song choice. Nice stage presence and great style.

Ollie Smith – Guitar work is very tidy and you have a great tone. The guitar work and delivery made the performance work for you. However, it is a dated song choice and ideally we want to see you being more original. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.

Sophie O’Hara – Think more dynamics to work the song harder with more range and really commit to the chorus. Click here for more on guitar dynamics. You have a lovely tone to your voice and great musicianship when playing.

Belle Harmonie – Routine was slick and you made it your own just need to tidy up the harmonies to be on point, on occasions the arrangement was a bit messy. You used the stage well, great energy and you thought the image through. Click here for more on the importance of act image and synchronisation.

Charles – You must watch you mic control and for the best projection get as close as you can to the mic. Click here for more on microphone technique for singers. On the keys, maybe not the best keyboard to use if it is distorting when hitting the keys hard. Some notes you sing are fantastic and others you are missing altogether so you need to be consistent to control the talent you have.

Hayley J – A powerful vocal performance, good stage presence and a committed performance. Going forward would like to see an element of more originality. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.. You have a lot of confidence but nerves seemed to show slightly at the start, you improved as the song went on. Click her for tips on dealing with nerves

Birmingham Music Competition Feedback

Jazmine Banks – One of the best vocals of the day, don’t be frightened to hold the mic a little closer and watch your control. Give the same attention to the low notes as you do as the high notes. Great stage presence and vocal control.

Dan Sutton – Good commitment to the performance and strong delivery. You will however open up a wider wealth of opportunities if you start to perform originals it will make you far more accessible for festivals and a bigger range of gigs. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.

Sarah Hallam – You have a lovely tone but under pressure this song was too big for you and you need to ensure under pressure your range and projection is comfortable to dominate the delivery of this song. Look to work with a good vocal coach who will easily be able to assist you on these to make you even better. Click here for more on performing a creative cover.

A-Class- As a performance it felt painful, try to convey other emotions in your expression, click here for more on facial expression. Look to perform as much as you can so you can develop your stage craft. Work on your projection and mic technique so the audience can clearly hear your lyrics, click here for more on microphone technique for singers

Aimee – Look to perform as much as you can and look to develop more commitment and presence to the performance as you have bags of ability. You have a great voice but his perhaps wasn’t the best song choice to show off your voice, click here for the importance of song choices

Undivided – Nice flow and groove, can see you guys have performed many times before as you have a good connection as performers. Your vocals complement each other well. Great energy, confidence and audience interaction during the performance and the song was delivered to a high level.

BamBam– You are very good vocally but you gave us nothing new as a performer. When performing covers really try to put your own stamp on them, click here for more on performing a creative cover. Great tone, projection and vocal control.

Ju Blencowe – You are a fantastic story teller, such a talent to convey a story in a song so convincingly. You couldn’t hear a pin drop in the room. Great sincerity, wonderful lyrics.

Jenna – You have a powerful vocal, but don’t sacrifice control for power. Try to change the dynamics to save the power for the high notes and it will have more impact. Click here for more on performing a creative cover. Confident performance and stage presence.

Dan Knight – Liked your playing style just need to vary it a bit otherwise it loses the interest. Vocally you have a good range. More performing will hopefully develop a more dynamic performing style, click here for more on guitar dynamics

NEC Birmingham Music Competition Feedback

Abi Farrell – Loved the groove and vibe you just needed to really work the dynamics to drive through a hook click here for more on writing that killer chorus. Good musicianship and as lead vocalist try and feed off that to give a better connection,  a glance or smile round as they drive the groove. Click her for tips for music duos and groups

Da-Dan’s – Musically great, need to work in developing the facial expression you are giving us, you need to convey the emotion in the song, click here for more tips on singing with facial expressions.. Also reach out to each other on stage to show you are connected and enjoying playing with each other.

Armel – You have a super vocal but you need to bring us much more visually. Click here for more on the importance of act image and synchronisation.. Great vocal control and pitch throughout the performance.

Doc Moonshine – Such a powerful, passionate vocal! Where does that come from? The big ballads are the way to go for you. Just take care not to force the vocal and lose control. Brilliant performance.

Ruey Blu – Your delivery comes across quite aggressive where as it would better if you took a tongue and cheek, ironic line to your performance. Good concept, just need to change the chord structure to keep the interest and intrigue going throughout.

Kisha – Performing acapella is very unforgiving and leaves you totally exposed to any mistake . Not convinced acapella was a risk you should have taken in this environment. Good strong gosepl vibe, a very confident performance.

Crooked House – Musically great and great connection between the two of you on stage, but there is no eye contact or attempt to connect with the audience whatsoever. Connecting and reaching out to the audience is vital to convey the emotion in the song.  Click here for more on audience engagement and connection. Lovely tones, easy listening.

Helen James – You’ve got a booming vocal, clear diction and great projection. Going forward look to develop to find your own sound. Click here for more writing lyrics - getting started. A very confident, great stage presence.
