Newcastle singing auditions: At Open Mic UK we provide music industry feedback to all acts that perform in our shows. Below is feedback for acts from the Newcastle Music contest. Newcastle Singing Auditions 

Caroline Wiles– We enjoyed your original song – it was lovely! Click here for tips on songwriting. You did look very nervous on stage, this is completely natural but you do need to try and minimise them. Nerves can disrupt your performance, click here for tips on dealing with nerves. You have a great voice! With increased practise your nerves will go.

Anna Coulson – Your voice has masses of potential. We can’t wait to see you on the big stage, as we believe you will only look better! Reduce the amount of air that you take in while your singing, click here for tips on breath control exercises. Keep working hard, and think about how you can use the stage to your advantage at the next round of the competition. Click here for tips on being a stage performer as a singer.

James Lovett Hurren – You looked very dapper! Your voice is slightly too ‘choir’ like. Work closely with a singing teacher to find a voice sets you apart from anyone else. Click here for tips on finding the right singing teacher for you. You have a beautiful voice, with practise and work, you will have loads of potential. You’re one to watch James!

Emma Wardle – A nice performance, however it did feel a little flat. Think about how to bring in dynamics to make your performance more engaging. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. We were crying to see some passion! With increased body movements will come emotion, and this will have us hooked. Click here for tips on how to sing with emotion

Victory – You have a sweet voice! Please believe in yourself as we could feel your nerves. This is completely natural but you do need to try and minimise them. Nerves can disrupt your performance. Click here for tips on dealing with nerves. If you can conquer these nerves, then you will have masses of potential. Keep working hard.

Scarlett Ellis – You have a very strong and powerful voice – you should be proud of this! Try to be careful with your key changes. Click here for vocal exercises for singers – these will help with controlling your dynamics. We look forward to seeing you at the next round of the competition. Kiera – You are very confident on stage – this is very admirable! Click here for tips on building stage confidence as a singer. You have a lovely voice. Think about how you can make yourself different to other artists out there – identifying this will put you above everyone else. Look at choosing a more up-to-date song, this could be more engaging for your audience. Click here for tips on song choices

Natalia A – You were very closed up on stage, your hands were behind your back and you were looking down at the floor. You need to try and minimise the nerves so you feel more confident to use the stage. Click here for tips on singing on stage and dealing with nerves. You have improved loads since year, so keep working hard and you’ll continue to get better!

Jodie Elliott – You have a lovely voice, and you performed well. You really stand out, as you picked the perfect song. It suited your vocals well. Click here for tips on song choices. Laura Elsy – There’s something very unique about you Laura! Your voice has potential, but you need to be careful of your breathing. Click here for tips on breath control exercises. Working with a singing teacher will be able to work closely with you on this, click here for tips on finding the right singing teacher for you. Take advantage of your silky voice, and try and project more on stage – show us your passion!

Isobelle Faulkner – Love your image! Work on bringing more power and control into your performance. Try and loose some of the stylised elements that makes your voice too similar to others. Click here for tips on vocal projection. You do have a lovely voice, it’s very smooth. If you find more of an identity in your voice, this will put you a step above. 

Ellie K – A really edgy version of a great song choice, well done on making this your own! Click here for tips on performing a creative cover as a singer. Try to perform more, to engage with your audience. Click here for tips on singing on stage. Also, try and use more of your vocal range, this will be exciting with your specific vocals. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. You look the part and you have a strong voice.

Melody – Very chirpy and cheerful – one of the best of the day! We loved your style, vibe and confidence. Click here for tips on finding an image as a musician. Your performance was very engaging as you gave us a catchy original song! Click here for tips on songwriting. There are some KT Tunstall tones in your voice. 

Sonia Deju – You have a nice voice. Working with a singing teacher will be helpful as they can help bring your voice forward out of your throat. Click here for tips on finding the right singing teacher for you. Your body language felt awkward as you were closed up on stage. You need to try and minimise the nerves so you feel more confident to use the stage. Click here for tips on singing on stage and dealing with nerves.

Richard Simpson – Loved the song! You performed it very well. Try to work on your phrasing, so your audience can hear every word and connect to the lyrics. Click here for tips on diction for singers. We need to see more emotion in your performance, with a possible connection to the lyrics. This will be more engaging for your audience. Click here for tips on how to sing with emotion.

Aileen Marron – You have a beautiful voice and a gorgeous tone. You seem to really connect with the song! Don’t forget to open your eyes and connect with your audience also, this will be more engaging for them. Click here for tips on using eye contact. Brian Robinson – You have a great voice, and you maintained the pitch well. The performance was a little stilted and it lacked emotion. Be sure to work on this, as this will make your performance more engaging for your audience. Click here for tips on how to sing with emotion

Chris Delell – The song felt a little flat and it lacked personality. There are a number of things you can work on here that will better your performance. Incorporate vocal dynamics, varying your range with be exciting and show off your voice more. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics. You could also try using the stage, as this will be more engaging. Click here for tips on singing on stage as a singer. It was a good song choice for you! Work on bringing it more alive.

Kat D – A nice upbeat song! This was engaging for your audience, as it showed us your character. Click here for tips on audience engagement. You have a great talent, that we look forward to hearing more of.

George -  Very original, loved the rapping part – this set you apart from everyone else! Bringing diversity is important. The rest of the song was lacking slightly, we needed it to be more engaging. Click here for tips on vocal dynamics – working in these will be more exciting for your audience. 

Kamel – Loved the song, it felt very personal to you, which was engaging for your audience. Click here for tips on songwriting and how to sing with emotion. Showings us your connection to the song is key, as the emotion is what will have us hooked!

Matt – Your performance was like a cross between Jamie T and Ed Sheeran. To be compared to such artists is flattering for sure, but have a think about what you can bring to your performance that will make you different from other artists. We loved your song! Click here for tips on song choices.
