NORTH LONDON SINGING AUDITIONS

Singers and songwriters came to show off their talent at the North London singing auditions this weekend

North London Singing Auditions: At Open Mic UK we provide music industry feedback to all acts that perform in our shows. Below is feedback for acts from the London Music contest. Feedback for North London Singing Auditions

Maya & Anaiya – Good harmonies which is key for a vocal duo, take care not to force the vocal and lose your tuning. Jana Jutus – Good projection and you committed well to the expression and emotion in the song, click here for more on the importance of singing with facial expressions and consider not just reflecting the pain in the emotion but the light and hope also. Also consider being as original as you can click here for performing a creative cover as individually as possible. Quite a safe song choice, would be worth picking a more challenging one to really push your vocals, click here for more on song choices

Amber Foxley – If you are getting a sore throat a lot take a look at the following article on looking after the vocal, click here for more on how to warm up your vocal. You used your hands well but look to also use your body to convey the emotion in the song also, click here for more on stage presence. Keep focus on your performance rather than getting distracted with looking at your audience, click here for the importance of eye contact. You’ve got an alternative image which is good for a singer. 

Katie Hodgson – Your nerves came out in your performance so look to practice as much as you can to build confidence and feel comfortable with yourself, for tips with dealing with nerves click here. When choosing a song make sure you pick one that is more suited to your vocals.

Scarlett Rayner – Liked how you made the song your own, try and commit even more to make songs your own by clicking here for more on performing a creative cover.  Look to use your eye contact more to connect to your audience, click here for more on eye contact.

Carla Coyne – Great that you are performing your own song, the lyrics were a little simplistic to start with but the song has lots of potential; the key to any song is the chorus click here for more tips on writing that killer song chorus. The theme of the song was good, writing as much as you can will develop your song writing skills so make sure you practice as much as possible. Click here for tips on songwriting.

Norika – You have a super richness and tone to your vocals, however look to develop individually with coming up with your own versions of other artists songs, click here for more on performing a creative cover. Maddy Atkins - Your nerves came out in your performance starting in the wrong key, so look to perform as much as you can to build confidence and feel comfortable with the nerves! Krishna Rhode - Your nerves came out in your performance so look to practice as much as you can to build confidence and feel comfortable with the pressure, for more on dealing with nerves as a singer click here. Denis Coleman – Song is cool, catchy and can see this doing well. Hopefully you are writing as much as you can so 5 to 10 songs or 20, the more you can write the better so it can develop into a very strong first album. Harley-Jay Hampton – Nice song choice but try and add more dynamics to make the song different and as interesting throughout click here for adding more vocal dynamics as a singer. Song choice was a tad too big for you, try finding a song more suited to your vocals click here for more on the importance of song choices and selecting songs that best suit your vocals. 

Diana Hysenaj – You have good potential but look to add more dynamics to make the song different and as interesting throughout click here for adding more vocal dynamics as a singer. Vocally keep looking to develop your projection and range to be even better which a good vocal coach will be able to assist you with, click here to find how to pick the right singing teacher.

Lola Warman – Was good you brought a couple of backing musicians to give a live feel. You have a strong and unique vocal and made the song your own, a good first impression set the tone! As performers, try and reach out and connect with each other to show the connection between you and togetherness. For tips about singing in a group click here.

Alice Delves – Nice tone but you need commit more to your projection, click here for tips about vocal projection. Also look to vary your dynamics around even more, click here for more on guitar dynamics. Expression wise, look to express the light and hope and not just the despair otherwise it can come across quite depressing.

Alex Mascari – Nice start to give a good first impression, the theme of the song is great with an overall engaging performance. Look to use your body to convey the emotion in the song; for tips on stage performance for singers click here! Look to use all your tools to give the most captivating performance as possible. 

Parisa Shahmir – You have a crisp vocal and distinct tone for an overall enjoyable performance. You varied the dynamics well click here for guitar dynamics but try and put your own creative spin on the songs you sing. Lou Ryder – Strong vocal but try and commit to being more original and look to change cover songs to make your own click here for more on performing a creative cover. Good power and projection in your voice pick your moments in the song to apply your range and power, click here for more tips on vocal projection.

Katherine Oppel – Poor old coco… think you over fed the cat; need to be cruel to be kind, the song has more comedy value than any potential hit; click here for more on songwriting

Akbota Kassymova – Look to develop your vocals to give more projection and range to be even better, click here to read more about vocal projection. Pleasant voice but maybe picking more of an exciting song will help highlight your vocals, for more tips on song choices click here. performance wise we need more eye contact to reach out to your audience, click here for the importance of eye contact as a singer. 

Laura Scariot - Nice tone but you need commit more to your projection. Look to vary your dynamics around even more click here for more on vocal dynamics. Expression wise, look to express the light and hope and not just the despair otherwise can come across quite depressing. When singing upbeat numbers try bringing the performance with it. Mila Patel – Need to develop your confidence and practice on performance, also focus as much as you can on the pitch you are singing in! Look to work with a vocal coach to improve your projection, tone and range; click here for more on picking the right singing teacher.

Dominique Bacheven – Practice as much as you can, as you were not fluent. You need to develop your confidence and perform more, also look to work with a vocal coach to improve your projection, tone and range click here for more on picking the right singing teacher.

Letitia Kapuscinska – You had a nice distinct look, click here for the importance of singers image. Vocally, your diction wasn’t as crisp as it could be, click here for more on the importance of diction for singers. Soulful voice but the song choice had a bit of a dated feel and it needed to have more of a vocal hook to really engage us more.

Marc Perrin – Your guitar playing was louder than your vocal so either develop your vocal projection or adapt the guitar playing for an acoustic number, click here for more on vocal projection. Develop your eye contact to reach out to your audience click here for more on the importance of eye contact. Good original song very 90’s early 2000 feel, good emotion in delivery. GBG – Well done for doing an original song but try and work on lyrical content as could be stronger, click here for tips on songwriting. Look to bring a CD rather than rely on a connection, also holding the phone stopped you concentrating on your performance.
