Northern and Scotland Music Competition feedback for the Open Mic UK Northern and Scotland Under 16s Area Finals!
Northern and Scotland music competition: National music competition Open Mic UK held its Area Finals at The Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester this weekend and saw Northern and Scotland’s best singers, songwriters and solo artists take to the stage in their bids to impress a music industry judging panel and capacity crowd.
The area finals were judged by music industry specialists who have provided music competition feedback for each of the acts that performed. The people the Northern and Scotland music competition area finalists wanted to impress were talent producer with Syco Ents/Sony Records Eddie Evelyn-Hall, Jill Bowyer from Salford City Radio, Peter Ross from Astar Studios, Jamie Lee Harrison from Make a Change Music Group, Jason Kelly from JK Management, Green Pepper Junction records Asher Halle and X Factor contestant 2014’s Jack Walton’s manager Darran Barker.
Northern and Scotland’s Area Finals were rounded off by our guest act, Exposure.

Ronnie – Good performance. Over time you’ll only get better, keep at it! Great image. Focus more on the melody of the song. You’re guitar playing was nice, click here for tips on performing with a guitar.
Callum Joseph Wright – Fantastic voice and tone. Lovely guitar playing! Good voice. Maybe pick a harder/challenging song, click here for importance of song choice. Try to connect with the audience more, click here for tips on connecting with the audience.
Dylan Fraser – Nice eye contact with the audience. Good strong voice for a little guy! Handled the song well!
Bethany Patton – Good image. Liked the song choice, click here for importance of song choice. You had great expression, nice to see a smiley performance.

Amy Chester – It seemed like the song was a little too big for you, click here for importance of song choice. Nice stage presence. Remember you’ve only got a few minutes to show off your voice, don’t waste valuable time on long intros.
Lily – Nice image. Lovely vocals. Need to work on the guitar a little, click here for tips on performing with a guitar. Really good performance and confident too.
Nicole Rose – Very powerful vocals and strong performance. Huge song did really well. Great song choice and lovely voice.
Eva Beattie – You’ve got potential, but the voice needs developing, a vocal coach can help with this, click here for the importance of voice training. Nice physical expression. Would be fantastic on musical theatre or west end!
Alex Georgiev – Lots of stage presence and potential. Nice original song too. Really accomplished performance, good with the guitar.
Kayleigh and Colleen – Good work on the harmonies. Liked the song choice, click here for importance of song choice. Need to develop a connection between the two of you. There wasn’t a lot of stage presence, click here for tips on vocal groups.
Jack Dezzo – Good commercial voice. The making of a real talent here. Try not to let your nerves show. You would suit a fast song, click here for importance of song choice.
In-Sync – Amazing voices! Great song but try to harmonise more! Keep developing your act and in a few years you’ll be even better.
Olivia Garcia – Obviously being vocally trained and it shows! Really good. Nice tone. The performance was lovely.
Tabitha Jade – Unique voice. Would have been good to use a track? Very confident performer and nice stage presence.
Keira Swift – Very strong, especially in on so young. Such a confident performance. That’s how you perform! Little star.

Livy K – Smile when you sing so it shows you’re enjoying the performance. Not mad on the song choice, click here for importance of song choice. Good vocal range. Excellent performance.
Gabriel – Good rough commercial voice. Good expression. Nice performance. Try to make more of a connection with the audience, click here for tips on connecting with the audience. Loved the mash up.
Zara – Lovely tone to your voice! Slow the song down a bit. Smile! Think the guitarist distracted from the performance, there wasn’t a real connection between the two of you.
Susie Bloomfield – Great image. Got better as the performance went on. Great voice, but not sure this is the right song choice for you, click here for importance of song choice. With the right song you could be going places!
Effi-Nicki – Try taking the song down a key. Great stage presence. Very unique sound.
Jake – Excellent performance. Can’t help but think where this young man might be in another 5-10 years. Outstanding, will be a big star.
Katie Hammond – Unique voice. Lovely tone. Maybe try a bigger song, seemed a little too safe, click here for importance of song choice. Confident eye contact with the audience.
Alex Lees – Just great. Excellent performer. Great voice.
Ashleigh Burns – Nice touch with the keyboard. Original performer. Good image.
L.O.X.I.E – Great image. Good overall performance, lots of stage presence. The progress you’ve made is amazing.
Josh Whittaker – Good mic technique. Loved the song choice. Lovely performance. There’s a something a little special about this performer.
Jennifer Rice – Image good. Strong voice and good performance. Great to see you smile when you sing.

All successful acts from the Open Mic UK Area Finals will be performing at the Open Mic UK 2014 Open Mic UK Grand Final on Saturday 24th January at Concourse suites 1 & 2, National Exhibition Centre (NEC), Birmingham B40 1NT.
