NOTTINGHAM AUDITIONS

Nottingham Auditions: Music industry judges gave singers feedback at the Nottingham auditions at The NEC in Nottingham this weekend. The Nottingham auditions gave singers and songwriters the opportunity to gain a place in the Regional Finals of Open Mic UK.

Nottingham Auditions - Singer's Feedback

Ella Coleman – You gave a lovely controlled and emotive performance, with a lovely tone and diction. To improve further think about your dynamics, this will give more to your performance. Click here for more on singing dynamics. You used good hand movements however try not to play with your hair – it can be distracting for the audience! Can be a little pitchy at times and be aware of the breathing points of phrases. Click here for tips on breath control exercises.

Lucy Davies – You have a great vocal tone and range and good breath control, especially on the longer phrases. Your connection with the guitarist came across well. Performance wise you used good eye contact and diction, however try to relax more and don’t be too quiet as your voice was sometimes lost. Click here for more on performing on stage for singers. Eva Finnemore – You have a very individual style which is very good, but make sure you think about diction to keep lyrics clear. You performed with good volume and projection and have great potential so keep working hard to support your voice. You seemed very confident with the guitar, however try not to look at the guitar too much when playing. Click here for why is eye contact important. Rosalind Montgomery – You have great diction and tuning. You showed you have a good vocal range and can work at the top end of your voice which is good, however be careful not to sound strained on the top notes. Consider using the lower notes more. Watch the ‘slides’ as this can tend to lose the note accuracy. Try to put your water bottle down so you can learn to perform with more open body language. Cady Cogswell – You have a lovely tone and great vocal expression and pitching. Try to be more confident in your performance and relax a little – be careful not to rush! Keep practising performing to help control nerves and get used to performing in front of an audience. Click here for tips on dealing with nerves. Felicity Holman – You have a great sense of performance and a lovely voice. You projected your voice well however make sure you’re not too quiet at the beginning. Try to relax more to make sure you do not tense your jaw when singing or come across a little pitchy – this will be due to nerves. Click here for tips on dealing with nerves. Mosorire Omisore – You have a lovely voice and tone with great potential. Performance wise, try to use less arm movement as it can be distracting from your performance. Think about keeping your eyes forward and towards the crowd rather than upwards. Click here for why is eye contact important. Try to control your facial expressions – filming yourself performing and analysing will help with this. Be careful not to be too breathy. Click here for breath control exercises.

Nottingham Auditions – Feedback for singer's

Rebecca Lawson-Turner – Overall a very enjoyable performance with good diction and a lovely clear notation. Try to take some time to develop your upper vocal range. Click here for tips on how to improve vocal range. Watch out for jaw tension, try to relax more during your performance to prevent this – a singing tutor will help with this. Elle Evans - You have a very good vocal tone and a powerful voice. Try to look up from the floor and retain eye contact with the judges and audience – this will improve the effectiveness of your performance. Click here for why is eye contact important. Be careful not to swing your arms too much as this can distract from your performance. Think about being more unique, don’t copy the artist too much. Relax and be yourself! Isabella Montgomery – You gave a great and confident performance with good performance techniques. Your voice was strong with clear lyrics and diction. Try to find more control in your voice by not using too much breath between phrases. Click here for more on breathing exercises for singers. Nottingham Auditions – Singing Feedback

Farrell Crowson – Very well written song, your performance was very strong and enjoyable. Be careful not to use too much emotion as you can risk losing diction. This will also help to develop your vocals. Click here for tips on diction for singers. You have a lovely vocal tone however try to think about dynamics at the beginning so as not to appear too big too soon. Click here for more information on singing dynamics. This will help to enhance your performance.

William Keay – Your performance was very strong and quirky, with a great and catchy song. Song lyrics were good however try to keep them tight to the backing. You used nice changes between verses and choruses. Try to think about song dynamics to really enhance your performance. Click here for more on singing dynamics. Dean Robert – You have a great tone and really connected with the audience well. Your performance was confident and very enjoyable with strong vocals. Try to be more unique as an artist. Mike Richards – You gave a great creative and very strong performance. The whistling made your performance very unique which is good! Natalie Johnstone – You performed a great arrangement and had a very good vocal tone. Performance wise you used good eye contact which helped to entice the audience however be careful not to strain on the higher notes. Think about working more on vocal support and try to work on timing with the guitar. Recording yourself performing, reviewing and analysing will help with this. All singers and songwriters successful through the Nottingham auditions progressed onto the next stage of the competition at the Nottingham Regional Final Showcase which will be held at The Britannia Hotel Nottingham on Saturday 10th September!
