BRISTOL MUSIC CONTEST – 16-20 Category
Rocio Ruano – Nice vocals, guitar work could have been a bit more interesting. Could have done with performance and energy from the musicians to back up the front lady. Your guitar was a little out of tune. Maybe get different musicians, or get your current ones singing harmonies?
Rosie Woodruff – Original. A bit too many words so couldn’t really enjoy any sustained notes. Too focused around the root note. Adapt the melody and create a bigger chorus.
Ellie Needham – Potential is there but need to give more emotion and expression to the performance to bring it alive! Open your mouth more as this enhances the vowel sounds and general projection/performance. Need to engage with the audience.
Raquel Thompson – Great outfit! Too much like Beyonce – work on your own original style. Song was a bit too big for your voice. Too karaoke. An able voice nonetheless.
Marcus Adams – Look the part and your song is decent but you would benefit from stronger dynamics – the song needs a breakdown as it’s a bit exhausting at the moment. You also need to take care not to force the vocals. Flat in parts – record and listen to yourself to see where you’re struggling. Take your time with the melody. Great with rap!
Jasper – What a great mash up! Really clever and worked so well. Also made it individual! Great job. Great vocal. Engage with your audience more now!
Zoe Louise – Shaky vocal. Don’t overdo it! Very able voice though, and good mic technique.
Emily Brooks – Nicely sung. To be even better look to expand your range and projection which a good vocal coach can help you with. Hard song. Give more for those high notes! Nerves came through and it affected your pitching.
Isabella Hayward-Rodgers – Sweet vocal tone. Stunning, enchanting voice. Watch your control on the start of the high pitch run to make a little smoother. Going forward look to bring a little more expression and performance.
Ciara – Diction was very clear and the control of your vocals were excellent. Song is a bit sleepy which won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Gorgeous tone. Fab original – quirky and actually original. Great use of range!
Jack Cashion – Potential is there - just need more commitment on stage which more expression and performance will convey. More performance will help you build these stage skills. Michael Buble sound-a-like.
Naomi Griffiths – Solid vocal and performance. In particular you are very comfortable on the guitar. Try and add more dynamics to your performance to give it that extra level.
Chelsie – Good idea and a really committed performance, dynamics were spot on. Stunning dress. Good cover idea.
Fai – Vocal control was excellent. Going forward I would look to use that stage more and add expression to better convey the emotion of the song. Good dynamics. There were a few mic technique issues too.
Bryony Sier – Real potential with the song, catchy and enchanting. Try and use your eyes more to engage with the audience. Don’t over-exert notes that should be quiet. Open your throat more for more depth. Good original.
Belle Ridene – You made the cover your own with a strong vocal. Take care with your diction on all notes try and give them all the same amount of attention. Great cover idea. Suits her voice! Great emotion portrayed.
Wildwood Kin – These guys will do so well on the festival circuit. Some strong musicians to give a really full sound! Original – love it. Amazing harmonies and great rhythm to maintain interest. Like a female Mumford and Sons!
Aaron Samuel – You have a lovely vocal but try and control it better. It feels like you still need to learn where your vocal tone sounds best. Good sentiment to the song. Open your throat more but great range!
Emily McGrory – Great cover idea – gorgeous vocals. A little nervous at times. Great dynamics.
Jenny Anne – Good strong vocal. Would have picked a less obvious song choice as you picked a very popular one and also one that is difficult to impress with. Watch your mic control as you are losing vocal volume a lot of the time which could be avoided through better technique.
Cara Elizabeth Ludlow – Liked the vocal tone and a you had a good sentiment to the original song. Doesn’t capture my attention. Project more! This style is done a lot so you have to work harder to stand out!
Nataley Simpson – Good song. Would have benefitted from a larger range in the dynamics of the song as it did stay on the same level for most of it.
Ed K-T – Lovely tone. Not so sure the song has single potential albeit a nice track. It needs something stronger to give that instant first impression. Too much guitar – all on one level.
Six Days – Committed performance and a great connection with the music, each other and the audience. Great dynamics and energy. The balance was perfect.
Maeve – Good vocals. Need to perform more to build your confidence and learn to use the stage more. Great diction and tone. Not so sure about the song.
