Shanice – Confident, heartfelt vocal. Great styling. Try to engage with your audience with a little more eye contact and body language. Click here for advice on performing visually. There were slight tuning issues in places, but overall it was a beautiful performance with emotion.
Nick Clarke – Lovely rich, deep voice. I’d like to see you use more of the stage. Click here for advice on performing visually. The performance lacked emotion and personality. Watch your tuning on those rising cadences in this song. Good vocal but a safe song.
Faye Bagley – Punchy performance of a cool original song carried by a strong vocal. Loved the song and really believed the words – well executed. Good facial expressions - you conveyed the story well. Lovely tone and projection. Like your sound and style - one to watch!
Keshia – I loved this. Great voice and totally committed performance. Brilliantly fun! You worked the stage and worked those vocals, showing off your versatility. Don’t push the belt notes too much though.
Georgia Mason – A slightly nervous performance. Consider hand-holding the mic halfway through the song to add some impact. You were flat at the start of the performance. Liked the idea of the backing singers but they weren’t always in tune with each other, although this improved as the performance advanced. You’re only as good as your worst singer. You made the song your own, well done.
Daniel Knight – Good passionate delivery. You remind me of James Blunt. Nice tone! Fabulous performance which utilised your range. Lots of emotion and expression. Good diction and there’s potential in the song but the C G Amin F chord progression got a little tedious after the second chorus so look to add some different chords in there too.
Rebecca Purchase – Convincing vocal with confident delivery and well-controlled dynamics. Song choice is everything and this is the most covered song of the last 12 months, which makes it difficult to be better than the original and be an original artist. Click here for advice on the importance of song choice. You have a great vocal and it was a bit of a missed opportunity to be different and show us what you can do as an individual.
Big Dreamz – You had the image but you had a problem with your tuning. A good vocal coach could assist you with tuning and projection to be even better. Click here for advice on the importance of singing lessons. Watch your mic control - you can’t sing softly then shout down the mic – IT’S WAY TOO LOUD! Interact with the girls more – you’ll be in tune then! Smooth honey tones, but this was affected a bit by nerves which meant smooth became a bit more stodgy at times.
Emma-Eliz – Lovely tone to your lower register. Slight overuse of vibrato for my taste, but a competent vocal. A dated and popular song choice. Click here for advice on the importance of song choice. More rehearsal needed with your guitarist.
Dizzy – Potential is there but there was nothing original about the performance which felt a little uncoordinated - as did the lyrics. The song lacked structure and a lyrical hook. Your interaction with the audience saved you!
Chamu – Bags of personality and a fun vocal. Great vocal! Quirky and cool. Good interaction with the audience. Watch your mic control - get really close to that mic to get the most of your projected vocal. It’s a shame you didn’t mash the two songs together better - it just felt like it was bolted on in the middle. Having said that it was an enjoyable performance.
Jordan Adams – Forgot for a moment there that I’m judging a competition. Very professional, pitch-perfect performance. Crystal clear vocal and such control. Immaculate look.
Nia Ekanem – Lovely distinctive voice. Very listenable. It’d be good to hear your own material or your own stamp on the song. Click here for tips on performing a creative cover. Just be careful not to push too hard – you don’t need to. Lose the coat!
Brett Huckfield and Marie Timmins – Fun and visual. Cool original song with nice harmonies. Shaky start but you quickly settled down. Try and connect a little better as performers on stage to show stage chemistry. Work on the facial expressions - soften them where necessary. Perhaps look back at the filmed footage and review to be even better. Click here for tips on how to sing with facial expressions.
Open mic nights Birmingham – Open Mic UK to impress at the Open Mic UK singing competition
Operall – Simply beautiful. Clearly very strong classically. Watch the breathing in places - it spoilt the phrases. Tuning was on point.
Scarlett Maclean – You have a young, commercial voice. I can hear country influences in there too. Measured delivery and good vocal control. You engaged your audience. Good transition between the songs and a clever mash up. Look at taking risks as an artist now!
Drunken Master and the Man Dem – Mistakes happen but it was an unprofessional and sloppy start, why play with your mic! Despite the technical gremlins this was a lively, entertaining performance – just watch the guitar tuning! It sometimes felt like two individuals on stage rather than a duo. The potential is there – you just need to knit it together as an act.
Sophie Dangerfield – Really liked the version of the song – it was refreshing and different. Would have been even better with live accompaniment! Good strong vocal. Classic, glamourous looks.
Emma Swindells – Strum your guitar over the sound hole for a richer tone! Nice song and a nice sentiment telling a story which you conveyed well. Your voice sounds strained in places – perhaps some vocal coaching would help. Click here for advice on the importance of vocal coaching. Good country styling but the voice doesn’t match.
Lynsey P – Competent vocal, but it lacked a little warmth. Try to make more eye-contact with your audience. You needed to commit more to the performance. Your performance was a little static for a track with that much energy. Click here for advice on performing visually. The backing track was too samey and you needed to give the song more dynamic.
Chloe Rose Fisher – Great attempt at a massive song with some cool contemporary phrasing – well done. Careful with your intonation in your upper range. Try and get more colour and contrast into your performance. It was a little harsh. Click here for advice on dynamics.
Ranaye Kaye – Cool, contemporary vocal delivered with attitude. Strong vocal, but no use of the stage! Click here for advice on performing visually. Good passionate song to choose - could have committed more to the performance.
Florina - Delicate delivery with soft vocal tones. Liked your vulnerability and innocence. Try to engage your audience a little more. Click here for advice on performing visually. Looked pretty unprofessional having the two backing performers looking down reading the music - why have they not learnt the song seeing as it’s only one song?
