Portsmouth’s Regional Finals were rounded off by our guest act Folk/Indie band Speak, Brother.

Lilo’s Wall – Silky vocals and a real comfortable watch on stage. There’s a good connection between you two. There’s a lot of promise here, would like to see more from you. It’s a really nice original song, very catchy.
Rachel Hogarth – Good vocally just need to watch your control in places but not sure it told us anything about you as an artist as it lacked originality. Click here for some tips on performing a creative cover.
Nick Tudgey – Fantastic guitar player, needs to still work on bringing a performance to be a Nigel Kennedy of the guitar playing world. Need to perform so that people are frightened to take their eyes off you. Your personality shone through the performance, buckets of charisma.
Ayse-Nichelle – There’s a lovely quality to your voice. Catchy little number, just need to work on some of lyrics so it allows it to flow better and perhaps be a little repetitive, click here for tips on writing songs. Like the use of the ukulele, don’t let it limit what you can do.
Amy-Rose – Lovely image. Talent is there but not convinced the song choice suited the best tuning in your vocal range, click here for the importance of song choice. A good vocal coach can assist you with tuning and extending your vocal range to be even better, click here for tips on getting the most from vocal lessons.
Abi Marchant – Your song writing shows huge potential. You could sense the emotion in the song. Sounded like you were forcing and pushing the vocal too hard which as a result affected the sound and tuning of your vocal. Click here for the importance of vocal lessons.
Ali Shepherd – Good vocals and performance just take care your vocals don’t go too thin which they did in places. Great performance but don’t be afraid to use the stage a little more, click here for tips on performance. Song choice and performance lacked originality, click here for performing creative covers.
Scott & Amy – Nice tone to your vocal but it would be even better if you worked on extending your vocal range and projection, this would also allow you to give the performance more dynamics, click here for improving projection and click here for advice on dynamics. There needs to be more chemistry between you, the odd glance between performances would show a connection on stage.
Billy Tee – Good vocal projection, click here for the importance of vocal projection. Be careful to use your powerful projection sparingly, if use it too much you can lose its impact. Using it more sparingly would also aid in the performance dynamic. Good to see you doing a creative cover and making the song your own, click here on the importance of song choice.
Portsmouth singers wanted –feedback continued
Tara Flanagan – Loved the performance. Well delivered. Song has a lot of potential, can imagine this on the radio and being a potential hit as it has all the ingredients. Click here to read more on writing your own songs. Be careful with your mic technique, some parts of the song came across as shouty, click here for tips on mic techniques.
Laura Hicks – Nailed it. Superb control and connection to the song, click here for the importance of connecting emotionally to the song. Good expression and super clear diction. Look to use the stage more so you can connect even more to your audience. Your mic control was superb, keep working on your whole performance and you’ll go far.
Naomi – Good eye contact with the audience and you can feel you had passion for the song, but under pressure the song was too big for you, click here for the importance of song choice. Also think image as that’s a trick you are missing too, click here for tips on act image.
Kirsten Evans – Hypnotic performance. Vocals were really unique. Lovely control and you won the audience over as you couldn’t hear a pin drop. Good use of dynamics, click here for the importance of dynamics.
Beth Parsons – Good vocally but a very self-indulgent performance, you missed an opportunity to connect with the audience from the start by screwing up your face and closing your eyes. Click here for the importance of facial expression. Going forward film yourself and analyse until you perfect what you want to achieve. A really difficult song to work with and it seemed a little too big for you, click here for the importance of song choice.
Jordan Sheath – A very intense look which with more performance should settle but try and relax more. Click here for more information on controlling nerves. Song is decent but perhaps needs a catchier hook to stick in your head. Work on your diction, some of the lyrics were lost, click here for tips on vocal diction. You need to show more personality in your performance to match your song.
Megan Vienna – Lovely warm voice. Liked your song which conveyed a story and flowed very nicely. You conveyed the emotion and told the story beautifully. Make sure you make eye contact with the audience more otherwise it distracts from the whole performance and makes you look less confident.
Alisha B – Great image. Looked like a pop star which straight away makes you give it extra attention. And you made the song your own with a clever creative cover, so important to do a creative cover and be original click here for more information on performing creative covers or making covers original. Try to bring more emotion to the song so that you and the audience can both feel it. Do you write your own songs?
Cynosure – Very entertaining performance. There’s a lovely chemistry between the two of you. Good harmonies and you connected well on stage. Better mic control will help give you more projection, click here for more information and tips on mic control. For next time, work on the image so you look like a group rather than two soloists, click here for tips on act image.
