Reading Auditions: At Open Mic UK we provide music industry feedback to all acts that perform in our shows. Below is feedback for acts from the Reading Music contest that took place at Sub89, Reading.

Reading Auditions – Singing Feedback
Georgina Davis – You have a very nice tone and showed a good use of dynamics, which helped make your performance emotional. You appeared quite nervous, although it improved throughout. Try not to stop in a performance as it only highlights the error. Even if you make a mistake just keep going! Click here for more on dealing with nerves. Margaret Perryman – Your performance was very smooth and confident! We had the impression you had rehearsed well. You have unique vocals and lots of potential! Try to think about engaging with the audience to help connect to them even more. Click here for information on why eye contact is important. You showed great dynamics and range of vocals, however be careful and watch your pitch. A singing teacher will help improve your pitch. Click here for more on how to pick the right singing teacher.
Abigail Ocay – You have a very unique and dark tone to your voice. You were able to hit the higher notes well. You showed great expression and good projection of your voice. Take time to choose the right song for your voice as under pressure your voice needs to hold throughout the performance. Click here for more on the importance of choosing the right audition song. Amber Weston – You had a very confident presence and showed good expression throughout your performance. You have a soulful voice which suited the song very well! However perhaps look to be more creative with your song choice. This will make you appear to be more original. Click here for more on performing a creative cover as a singer. MacKenzie Burke – You gave an impressive audition with great dynamics and vocal pitch. It was nice to hear your voice project over the guitar. However be careful with your guitar tuning, make sure you check and adjust it if necessary before you perform each time. Click here for tips on standard guitar tuning. Hayley Canham – It was great to see you having the confidence to perform your own song. It was catchy and engaging. You have a lot of potential so make sure you write as much as you can so as to build and develop your song writing. Click here for more on writing a song. The dynamics of your performance was very impressive in particular. It was great to see you using lots of movement and expression throughout the performance. Reading Auditions – Singer's Feedback
Phoebe Alexander – It was great to see you write in a key that suited your vocals – understanding what works for your vocal is an aspect of good song writing. You performed and expressed the song well, however when performing just try to engage with the judges and audience more. You can improve this by working on eye contact. Click here for more on why is eye contact important?. The jazz style was very good however be careful not to appear overly theatrical. Click here for more on performing live.
Marisa Rodriguez – You have a lovely tone and the tempo of the song was really drifty and dreamy. This showed great emotion. Make sure you write as much as can! You have a lot of potential. Performance wise, you need to focus on connecting with the audience. In particular work on bringing more movement to the performance in order to enhance your performance. Christina Cameron – Your song was very good and you have some nice unique characteristics to your vocal tone. Look to work on the dynamics and arrangement of the song such as driving the hook through to add impact. Click here for tips on writing that killer song chorus. Sue and Martin – You performed a great and fun song. It was nice to see a duo doing something a bit different. Be careful not to drown yourself out with your instruments, especially where the set-up is different. Think about using more dynamics to help draw the audience into the performance and help them to connect to the song and you as performers. Click here for tips on singing dynamics. Ian Appleby – Great song choice which really showed your range of vocals. Your performance seemed well rehearsed and you showed great emotion throughout which really helped you to connect to the audience. Matthew Williams – It was a lovely song choice and you have very nice vocals. Well done for playing and singing, just make sure you are always confident in what you do! Be careful to watch the tempo and work on varying the dynamics throughout your performance, both with vocals and the guitar backing. Click here for tips on singing dynamics. It was good to change up a well known song, however in order to make sure you are more original, think about performing more of a creative cover. Akira Ghatoare – The song was current, interesting and you connected well with it! You used a great measured build-up and the half-time drop/chorus really added to the interest of the performance.
