Singers and songwriters came to show off their talent at the Reading singing auditions this weekend

Reading Singing Auditions: Singers and songwriters came to Sub89, Reading singing auditions in the hopes of gaining a place in the Open Mic UK Reading Regional Finals.

Feedback for Reading Singing Auditions

Ella Stonehouse – Lovely tone but the song was too big for you. It is really important that you pick a song that suits you, click here for information on the importance of song choices. Choosing a song more suitable to your vocal range would be helpful.

Joelle Fenner – Liked your sharp vocals and had good control. Look to develop your performance, click here for the importance of stage presence and click here for more on the importance of singing with facial expressions.

Natasha Byde – Strong vocal. The song suited your vocal, however going forward think of being more individual, click here for more on performing a creative cover. Look to use all the tools at your disposal. Use your arms and body to convey the emotion even more.

Nishita Kovvuri – Look to punch out the vocal so it’s more crisp. You were very nervous, click here for more on dealing with nerves. Also work with your vocal coach to develop your projection and delivery to be even better! Click here for tips on finding a good singing teacher.

Jodi Anderson – Nice tone and good image. Take care with your keyboard playing. Just need to sharpen the playing so that you are focusing on performing rather than just hitting the right notes, click here for more on playing with music keyboards.

Amber & Emma – Great to see a duo, click here for more on singing in a group. Harmonies are always going to be key for duo. You did well with those but consider layering them up for as full a sound as possible.

Isabella De Arcaneeles – You have a wonderful vocal, just look to better your projection and use all the tools at your disposal, click here for more on vocal projection. Also use your arms and body to convey the emotion of the song even more, click here for more on stage presence.

Tabitha & Elodie Kronfield – Great to see a duo, click here for more on singing in a group. Harmonies are always going to be key for duo. Rather than singing too many sections consider doing less and singing separate parts. You did well with the harmonies but consider layering them up for as full a sound as possible.

Hattie Gates – You chose a very sensitive song, so it is really important that you connect us to the emotion of the song, click here for more on the importance of singing with facial expressions for a singer. Ollie James – A fantastic audition! Strong projection and a very engaging performance. Look to really punch through the chorus as it is key to stick the song in peoples heads, click here for more on writing that killer song chorus.

James Tiernan - Strong vocal. The song suited your vocal, however going forward think of being more individual, click here for more on performing a creative cover. Gwinyayi Myagowa – You need to be prepared for your audition. Your guitar was out of tune so it was difficult to see past that, click here for more on standard guitar tuning. Victoria Nagy – Even though it is an audition don’t be frightened to move around the stage, click here for more on the importance of stage presence. Musically, try and connect us more emotionally to the music, click here for more on singing with emotion.

Eve Golding – The nerves were coming out in your vocals so suggest you look to perform publicly as much as you can to build your confidence, click here for more on dealing with nerves and click here for building stage confidence.

Zhiheng Wang – You need to relax and really commit to the vocal. You were quite nasally and therefore the tone isn’t as good as it should be. Look to work with a vocal coach to improve your projection and tone, click here for more on finding the right singing teacher for you.

Cameron Thomson - Look to use all your tools at your disposal even more. Use your arms and body to convey the emotion even more. Also consider varying the vocals and performance with greater dynamics, click here for more tips on vocal dynamics.
