These views in no way reflect the views of the Open Mic UK competition, and are published with a view to being beneficial to the performing acts.

Sheffield Singing Auditions

Emeli Mumford – You need more breath as parts of your voice felt restricted. You’ve got good performance skills to communicate to the audience, which is something that will help any performance. Good pitching on those tricky notes. Be careful to not lose the tone at the end of the long notes, this is something a singing teacher can help you with, click here for finding a singing teacher

Annabel Croft – Nice tone to your voice. Make sure you make the song your own and avoid imitating the American accent, click here for more on performing a creative cover. The tempo was a little slow, give this more attention to your next performance.

Rebecca Blake – Make sure you connect with the tone and pitching, a good singing teacher will be able to assist you with this, click here for more on finding a singing teacher. Take in bigger breaths to give the full power to each word you sing. You’ve got good performance skills to back up your audition, so keep working on your pitching. Lots of potential here.

Olivia McAllister – You’ve got a good vocal projection. Work on perfecting your pitch on the riffs. Don’t look at the floor when you sing, we need to be able to connect with you as your audience, click here for the importance of eye contact. Good vocal tone but don’t rush, try to use more head voice.

Eloise Milewski –  Nice control on the top note, you choose a big song but still did great. Your song choice will always be an important factor, click here for more on song choices. Try not to take breaths in the middle of phrases. We need more eye contact, looking at the ceiling above the judges will not help connect with your audience, click here for the important of eye contact

Isabella Fletcher – Nice vocal control and pitching. When you’re restricted with time, it’s always best to start with the bits that most show off your vocal, if you’d gone into the chorus straight away, it would have improved your audition. Don’t look at the floor when you sing, it was quite a rigid performance. Try and relax so you can connect with your audience better, click here for more on eye contact

Ava-Grace Barkworth – Good effort. Try to plan where to breathe so it flows nicely. Lovely to see someone looking so happy during an audition, this always comes across well and shows you’re really enjoying yourself. A nervous start but once you got into it, the audition flourished, click here for more on dealing with nerves.

Katy Ivell – You’ve got potential! The song choice you chose wasn’t comfortable enough for your register. Would suggest looking to choose a song in a higher key to suit your voice more, click here for more on song choices. Also, we need to see you smile more, make it look like you’re enjoying yourself!

Taiya-Mae Bailey – Excellent artist in the making! You make the song your own, click here for performing a creative cover for more advice. You are great and have a great teacher too! Try not to look around the room too much, stay focused on your audience. Would like to hear you conquer a more adventurous song, click here for more on song choices.

Elisa Neri – Good vocal, make sure you bring the energy to the performance. Don’t coat your voice in too much breath, we need to be able to hear your vocal clearly. Make eye contact more, it’s always best to make a connection with your eye contact, click here for more on eye contact. Smile and relax more!

Holly-Mae Thompson – Carole King! Good song choice, this always helps improve a performance. Very smooth vocal performance. You’ve got a good vocal tone. Try not to look at the floor when you sing, click here for more on eye contact

Tioluwa Olojede – Nice tone! You’ve got a gospel vibe! Make sure you pick a song with more melodic movement, click here for more on song choices. Make more eye contact to engage with your audience better, click here for the importance of eye contact. Don’t take breaths in the middle of phrases. Good vocal tone but a few wrong top notes that need more attention.

Open Mic UK Feedback - Sheffield Singing Auditions

Ellias Marks- Good effort on the harmonies. Practise, practise and practise and you’d be great. Click here for more on audition tips. Good connection between the two of you.

Double Trouble- Great entertainment! Keep working on your vocals and dancing, click here for tips on singing in a group. You were slightly out of sync with each other, this is something that can be smoothed out with more rehearsal. It was really fun to watch. Thank you!

Adriel Sylaus – You should be confident and make sure you enjoy yourself, there’s clearly something here trying to break through, click here for more on dealing with nerves. Well done on auditioning and keep practising! I think with a few more years practise, you’ll be owning the stage!

Charlotte Smith – You’ve got a lovely, soulful tone! Could see you progressing in music theatre. Would like to see more eye contact to make a real connection between you and your audience, click here for more on eye contact. Would need some interesting originals to get attention as an artist. Be careful of using too much ‘cry’, but a very confident performance. Well done!

Mitchell Chambers – Good tone. Work on creating a strong impression if you want to be remembered as an artist. Try not to come across as too shouty, there’s lot of potential here you just need to work on your projection, click here for more on vocal projection. Try to make more eye contact to create a connection, click here for more on eye contact.

Fabio Caravita – Nice tone to your audition. Be careful of your diction, sometimes the words aren’t clear and won’t translate across well. Don’t keep your eye closed all of the time, it cuts out any engagement between us and you, click here for more on eye contact

Pete Hardy – Strong vocal performance. Lovely tone to your voice matched up with good eye contact with your audience. There was slight pitching issues on some slides in the chorus, this is something a singing teacher can help you with, click here for more on finding a good singing teacher

David Bolam – Good performance skills that showed the communication of the lyrics so well. Try not to look around the room so much, keep focused on your audience to make a connection fully with them, click here for more on eye contact. Good track production, really strong.

Melody Joy – Lovely sound. Try not to raise your head back when you sing, keep yourself up straight as if you’re being pulled up by a wire. Also, open your mouth more when you sing, so your diction is clear, click here for more on diction for singers

Clef – Moving to the beat! Watch out for the facial expressions when you sing, click here for more on  singing with facial expressions. Work on diction as sometimes I couldn’t tell which words you were singing, click here for diction for singers
