SHEFFIELD STAGE PERFORMANCE TIPS

Sheffield stage performance tips for the Open Mic UK Sheffield under 16s Regional Finals!

 Sheffield Stage Performance Tips

Sheffield stage performance tips: National singing competition Open Mic UK held its Regional Finals at O2 Academy Two, Sheffield this weekend and saw Sheffield’s best singers, songwriters and solo artists take to the stage in their bids to impress a music industry judging panel and capacity crowd.

The regional finals were judged by music industry specialists who have provided stage performance tips for each of the acts that performed. The people the Sheffield musicians wanted to impress were Paul Beetham from Rhythm Of Your Choice Ents, talent agent Karen Beetham, vocal coach Lucy McLean, vocal coach Beckie Oldham, Kate Holland from Pro Voice Studios, Phil Gornell from Steel City Studio and Darran Barker of DB Management.

Sheffield’s Regional Finals were rounded off by our guest act Philippa Hanna.

AllyC – Watching your pitching, you were out of key at parts. Make use of the stage during the instrumental, click here for tips on performance.

Fabienne Clarke – Lovely voice, good performance. Needed to build the back end of the song more. Next time it’d be nice to see you make the song your own, click here for tips on performing a creative cover. Adding some greater dynamics would enhance your performance even more; click here for advice on singing dynamics.

Lia Veall – Lovely performance and strong vocals. Brilliant direction, just be careful of your lower notes. Good range and some great tonal moments. Liked the mash up.

Frankie – Great original song, see if you can spend some time working on developing your voice further, a vocal coach will help you with this, click here for the importance of voice training. Try not to raise your head up and down too much; it loses the quality of your voice.

Anya – Lovely performance. It would be nice to see you use more of the stage to increase your performance, click here for tips on performing. Working on your performance skills will help you to improve.

Imogen Berry – Fantastic voice. Great song choice for your voice. Make sure the audience know you’re enjoying your performance, click here for tips on performing.

Caitlin Woodcock – Good use of the stage, fantastic performance. Strong vocals. Great to seeing you connecting with the song. Be more confident, you’ve really got something, click here for tips on singing with confidence.

Cal Hamilton – Great performance. It would have been better to hear a bigger vocal range in your song, click here for the importance of song choice. Keep your eyes open, engage with the audience, click here for tips on performing.

Abi Campbell – Lovely outfit. The song seemed a little too old for you age, click here for the importance of song choice. The vocals were really strong, pop star in the making. To build your confidence, try and get more experience on stage, click here for open mic nights.

Shayla Motley – Incredible voice. Even from a chair you rocked it. Really strong performance. Confident. Be careful not to screech the high notes and sound too nasally!

Sophie Maitra – Lovely voice. Be confident enough with your guitar that you don’t focus too much on that and instead on your vocals. Good image. Would have improved your performance more to more around the stage, click here for tips on performance.

Kimberley Badkin – Look great. Improve each time we see you! Not sure this was the song choice to go with, click here for importance of song choice. If you’d worked with the audience more you’d have killed it.

Kasey – Good on stage. Good carrying of notes. High range is really strong, play on that. Pick a song that shows that off that top octave, click here for importance of song choice.

Sheffield stage performance tips – feedback continued

Jenna Darrell – Unique vocals. Brilliant stage presence and getting the audience involved, click here for tips on audience participation. Work now on making a strong connection with the song, try to make the moves more meaningful to avoid them looking cheesy, and click here for tips on performance.

Samuel Richardson – Good song, keep it up! Couldn’t see much connection with the audience, click here for tips on performance. Would be great as a lead singer of a band.

Ella Jay – Good vocals and you owned the stage. Great take on the song, you really made it your own, click here for tips on creative covers. Lovely tone and very engaging.

Mya – Good voice and image. Try smiling and looking like you’re enjoying it as a bit more. You had some show stopping notes dying to come out, set them free!

Katie Bosworth – Great vocal. Fab timing. Don’t hunch over too much, posture affects your performance. Very soulful. Really good emotion to the song. Keep working on your voice to get even more out of those top notes, click here for the importance of voice training.

Chanel Yates – Great look and sweet voice. Confident performance. Greater dynamics would have helped drive the song from the beginning to the end, click here for tips on dynamics. Be careful with your pitching towards the end.

Bethany Shaw – Work on your mic technique, click here for tips on microphone techniques. It was a good song choice for your voice. Some of the top notes were a little too loud; working with a vocal coach will help you with that, click here for the importance of voice training.

Aisha Adams – Great confidence. Look great. This is a really difficult song to pull off and it may have been too much for your voice, click here for the importance of song choice. Your voice needs refining; a good vocal coach will help you with this, click here for the importance of voice training.

Tilly Wright – You really made the song your own. Sweet voice. Need to work on your breath control to make the performance a little sharper. This is something a good vocal coach will be able to help with, click here for the importance of voice training.

Eden Cowan – Great mashup. Strong arrangement. The song choice was good for your voice! Your voice goes nasally in certain parts; this is something that a vocal coach can help you with, click here for the importance of voice training
