Megan – Well sung but it did sound a little dated and needed a twist, click here for importance of song choice. Very unique tone which sounded great, try and work on some of your vocals. Work on your interaction with the audience, click here for tips on audience interaction.
Yasmin – Very quaint performance. You made the cover your own put into context by the guitar style, which gave a thin sound. Perhaps you could have used the guitar to drive through a change in dynamics, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. Came across very laid back but lacked originality. Try working on your stage presence, click here for tips on performance.
James Barrington Stephens - You have a great voice, but be careful not to interpret any other artist and just be yourself. If you want to be original start to write your own songs or play around with them, click here for advice on how to do a creative cover. Relax more, could tell you were nervous. You connected well with the song and looked very dapper.
South West and Midlands Singing Contest
Grace Martinson – Nice facial expression, vocally you struggled with your control at the same point in the track. You expressed the song excellently with your personality. You looked fabulous on stage, but the vocals struggled, click here for the importance of voice training.
Pearle – You have good projection take care not to be shouty. Click here for ideas on image as your look was a little dated. You needed to bring more dynamic to the performance to keep the interest going till the end, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. A strong voice though out, but not sure the song choice was correct, click here for importance of song choice.
Richard Jones – You have a great command of the audience which is to your credit and testament to your quality. Good performance without reaching the heights of the regional final performance. Lovely original song and beautiful words. Need to find your own identity and voice though as came across as though you are copying other artists, click here for tips on creating your own identity. Good overall performance.
Young Wilson – Diction was good and a good song choice for an enjoyable performance. Would have benefitted from some backing dancers and a routine, click here for tips on when to use backing dancers. Need to perform a little more directly to the audience rather than too side on. Impressive rapping though, click here for more tips on rapping. Need a bit more performance towards the audience, click here for tips on engaging the audience.
Melisa Severn – Liked the idea but it lacked control and tuning at times. Rework the dynamics as it was a little exhausting, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. Good confidence. The song did not work but a good effort, click here for importance of song choice.
Ewan – You are very likeable with a nice gritty voice. Would have been nice to hear a mash up and show some creativity, click here for advice on how to do a creative cover. Also just need to increase the range of dynamics to drive that chorus through, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. A good vocal and was a nice relaxed performance.
Laura Sidney – Beautifully sung but as with any show number very difficult to demonstrate any form of originality, click here for advice on how to do a creative cover. If you want to make the west end I'm sure you can as you have great control but not sure about as a recording artist as you didn’t show us much to demonstrate this. Looked great on stage, a stunning young lady.
Paula Rue – Very good, unique voice. You sounded great but struggled to latch onto a lyrical vocal hook. You could use your face more to convey the emotion of the song, click here for more on facial expression. Had great intensity at times.
Holly – Performed the song well and you certainly couldn’t ignore your hair. Look to work the dynamics more to keep the interest going throughout, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. Also, click here for tips on audience interaction. Great song choice which was delivered well, and a great entertainer.
Faye Plunkett – Need to try not and over use the vibrato as you are over using it currently. Commit more to the performance to convey the emotion in the song, click here for more on expressing emotion. Perhaps film yourself every time you perform and analyse your facial expression and performance to assist, click here for more on facial expression. A cool soulful performance. Image could be a bit better. Click here for ideas on image.
South West and Midlands Singing Contest
Megan Lara Mae – You are nice on the ear and have great control but the song was a little one dimensional like a Cliff Richard number a bit dated and cheesy, click here for importance of song choice. The song also felt like a verse and chorus, too long, like a guest that has over stayed their welcome. A great festival like song delivered well.
Darcy Poole – A very nervy performance, would look to select a song that shows off more of your personality, click here for importance of song choice. Vocally your diction isn’t clear and you need to be crisper with your tone. A little pitchy at times which will come with more experience.
Kasia – Liked the song, try and commit more to the performance. You aren’t using all your tools to hand to convey the emotion of the song, click here for more on expressing emotion You can move and show passion, click here for more on facial expression. You would also benefit from better dynamics, click here for more information on vocal dynamics.
Giordana – Good song choice but you needed to give it more life. Commit more to the performance emotionally, click here for more on expressing emotion, and with energy. Needed to take it somewhere vocally, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. Fabulous image.
Daisy Day – A good example of using facial expression to convey the emotion in the song. Song has potential but struggling to get the chorus and melody as a hook that will instantly stick in your head, click here for advice on writing a killer chorus. Would have preferred to have seen you perform a bit more rather than stuck behind a keyboard, click here for tips on performing with a keyboard.
Rhia-Cherie – Great soulful vocal. Image and song didn’t quite synch. Click here for ideas on image. You gave a lot of personality in the performance and worked the stage and audience well, click here for tips on audience interaction. Fantastic stage presence. Fantastic song choice and well delivered.
Alfie Jack – Love your vocal, fun and unique. Strong delivery. Song has potential but struggling to get the chorus and melody as a hook that will instantly stick in your head, click here for advice on writing a killer chorus Try and work on the connection between you as performers on stage, click here for more information on connecting on stage as performers.
Drew Wedlake – Great voice and great image. Slow start with your diction, click here for tips on diction for singers, poor but you build the dynamics of the song well to really recover strongly and delivery an enjoyable performance, click here for more information on vocal dynamics. Fantastic performance and vocals were very good.
Sharna & Hannah – Lovely tone to your vocal and good harmonies however you need to connect as performers and show chemistry, click here for more information on connecting on stage as performers. Good song choice with lovely harmonies.
