Looking for new music to listen to? Every month, we’ll be featuring five of our favourite new releases to add to your playlist! This month we’re featuring tracks from former Open Mic UK competitors Lola Young and Melina Blanco, as well as music from River Maya, Séline Delcourt and Wilswood Buoys.

Lola Young – Ruin My Make Up
Lola Young won Open Mic UK in 2015 and her latest song ‘Ruin My Make Up’ is her first new track for the year.
Explained the meaning of the song, Lola said: “‘Ruin My Make Up’ is a song I wrote about the duality of a person, well me. I was in a place at the time where I was trying to figure out whether my confidence was hindered by my vulnerability. If I cry about you, it will only ruin my makeup.
“It’s a sad song at heart but it has elements of strength and power. It touches on my journey through life, struggling with acceptance whether that be through religion or friends or drugs or, most importantly, through love.”
Melina Blanco – bus 139
London-based singer-songwriter Melina is no doubt a very talented young artist – she was runner up for best original song in the 2019 Open Mic UK competition.
Melina has written and recorded several tracks for her new debut EP “i told myself i wouldn’t write another sad song”, including “bus 139”, which is definitely worth a listen.
Séline Delcourt – Lights
Based in London, Séline Delcourt is working on her debut release. She was recently selected to represent South Korea in an international music competition showcasing upcoming musical talent, and performed in the televised presentation of the 2020 edition of the Luxembourg Peace Prize.
The single “Lights” was produced by Grammy award-winner Gast Waltzing, and
River Mara – Lockdown Love
River Mara is an up-and-coming London-based singer-songwriter, composer, and musician from Romania. She recently released the music video for her debut single, entitled, “Lockdown Love” which is an ode to any relationship affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wilswood Bouys – Save The Queen
Alternative/Folk Acoustic duo Josh and Joe, AKA Wilswood Bouys, are both from Mersea Island, where they started out jamming together in 2017. They now write and record their own music and are ones to watch in this year’s competition.
They released the upbeat track “Save The Queen” last summer, with the accompanying seaside video below.
