The open mic night at the White Horse is hosted by James Morgan and has been running nearly two years now. The first open mic night on our list is usually popular with pop, rock and swing artists, but musicians from every musical background are welcome.

Equipment provided includes a full PA, guitar, and keys. A Cajon is available on request too. Performances usually consist of solo artists with acoustic guitar or keys.

Backing tracks are allowed here, as are originals and covers. It’s usually quite a busy night, and it’s right next-door to Oxford Brookes University, so it’s popular with students.

What should performers expect from a jam night?

Rose Hill Community Centre: Open Mic Night

Come down to the Rose Hill Community Centre every second Monday and have some fun – take a turn playing a set or support your mates doing theirs.

Anyone is welcome at this open mic night and any ability. It’s free to attend with donations going towards costs and any extra towards the social club.

The slots are 10 minutes (or shorter) or roughly two songs. The short performances don’t need to be limited to songs, though – they could be a dance, rap, a piece played on a musical instrument, stand up, poetry, even some art made on the spot.

Group or paired performances are welcome, as well as solo. Performers can sign up in advance by emailing Lizzie, but you can also turn up on the night to put your name down.
