Mike Joyce

The Smiths’ Mike Joyce is an English drummer, best known for being the drummer in popular band ‘The Smiths’.

The Smiths’ Mike Joyce began his career in the industry when he joined punk outfit ‘The Hoax’ and Irish punk band ‘Victim’, before joining ‘The Smiths’ in 1982. The Smiths’ Mike Joyce was a member of the band throughout their existence (1982-1987).

Since the break-up of the band, The Smiths’ Mike Joyce has gone on to work with Sinéad O’Connor, Suede, Buzzcocks, Public Image Limited, Julian Cope, P. P. Arnold and Pete Wylie, and provided the rhythm section for two singles by Smiths’ singer Morrissey – “Interesting Drug” and “The Last of the Famous International Playboys” and their b-sides, along with Smiths bassist Andy Rourke and Smith’s guitarist Craig Gannon.

Now, in parallel to his music career, The Smiths’ Mike Joyce also works as a DJ and broadcaster, with regular appearances on BBC 6 Music.
